I see what you're saying, but I too am a Pitt student. I wanted to go to the memorial, but it was packed with officers, and from what I heard, they weren't letting many members of the public in. I did stand on 5th avenue to watch the procession and pay my respects, and missed a class to do so. But I emailed the professor beforehand to tell her why I would be missing class, and emailed my assignment as well so it wasn't like I was skipping class. I know there were logistical concerns for students who drive to campus, but these students I overheard were talking with annoyance while pushing through the crowds near the cathedral. It didn't sound like they were disappointed to be missing the memorial.

THey had a right to be annoyed. What idiot thought it would be a good idea to hold this thing in Oakland in the middle of the day during the workweek?
