I meant to post a thread about this article earlier, but never got around to it:
Grand visions for Uptown are developing

What are everyones' thoughts on this?

I think it's great, and have always hoped for revitalization of the area. It's got a great location, close to downtown, Oakland, and the South Side. I just hope they try to restore some of the great buildings and townhouses rather than tearing them all down to construct boring boxes.

I'm sure it'll be a mix of both. The Pens organization has already taken great care in protecting some of the older structures around the new arena, but some had to go as well. It was also part of the deal for the new arena that they are to play a vital part in revitalizing the neighborhood. And once the Igloo is gone, Uptown can be re-connected back to Downtown, as it should always have been.

Seems like a no-brainer to me, with the new Arena, Duquesne, and Mercy anchoring the neighborhood. And I also agree with preserving as many of the historic structures as possible.

The roughly 13 blocks along 5th and Forbes Avenues just across the Mon River from booming Southside, just West of the eds and Meds of Oakland, and at the edge of the Downtown CBD, Uptown Pittsburgh is uniquely poised to be the next "Hot Spot". The expansion of Duq. Univ. And UPMC Mercy Hospital combined with the opening of the beautiful new home of the Penguinsk Consol Energy Center; its a sure bet.

I agree it's a great , very convenient area to revitalize given it's location. The old brick rowhouses will look fantastic when they are restored.

Until the attitude and class of people in this area change, I don't feel much will happen. This is a crime ridden area and the Grocery store that is opening will close within 5 yrs.I say bulldoze the whole area and start over.

You are confusing the Bluff with the Hill District.

Once the area around the new arena is stabilized (since half the buildings along Fifth are for sale and the old arena is still there), it will be interesting to see. There's little changes here and there that appear for the positive...like its been nice to see there's a plan to convert the high school into living units.
