I'm new to city-data.com but joined to get some perspective from people currently living in Pittsburgh.
I'm going to be moving to Pittsburgh relatively soon for work. In addition to working on my career, I'm a young, single professional black woman looking for a mate. Are any of you in the same situation?
I was wondering where the hotspots are for young professional black singles. Which neighborhoods/bars/restaurants are good hang out spots to meet similar people?
Hotspots are the last place you should look for a mate. My girlfriend (black) met the man of her dreams at the laundromat.
OK...I'm guessing by hotspots you mean bars? My OP was asking about neighborhoods and restaurants as well. But, I guess I'm asking in general where are the black professional singles? LOL.
In most of the cities I have lived in previously, people co-mingle, sure. But also there tends to be a general area where groups of similar people go to to kick back or just meet other people like them. I guess I'm asking where that is for young black professionals...if there is such a place.
To the OP if you looking for something where Adult Blacks mingle in a professional sophisicated atmospher..The only place that I can suggest is CJ's in the Strip, most over 30's crowd of working class Blacks...
Other Professional places are going to be more a Mixed crowd....Most of the other Black establishments in Pittsburgh are the Thug/Hood/Ghetto Kids and 20's type crowds.

Thanks for the info.
I'm definitely okay with a mixed crowd. I'm looking for somewhere where there will be SOME black professional singles, not necessarily where there will be ONLY black professional singles--sorry if that wasn't clear in the OP.
Can you tell me what the names of some of the professional places are (where there are mixed crowds)? I'll be moving to Shadyside, most likely, if that helps. But, I'd be up for hanging out in other neighborhoods.
Some upscale bars in Shadyside include Soba (also a really good restaurant) and Red Room Cafe. There is a small minority population in pittsburgh, so it's rare that I see more than a handful of minorities (unless I'm in an ethnic restaurant). I'm asian so I tend to notice. Dance clubs tend to be pretty mixed, but I get the feeling you're not looking for dance clubs.
People tend to have luck meeting people through social groups (Pittsburgh sports league, meetup, volunteer stuff, churches). I have a friend who has met a lot of women at charity events.
If you're seriously looking, you might consider an online dating site (even just to get a feel for who's out there and maybe for some initial dates).
