Having turned away dozens of potential patrons night after night, Meat & Potatoes owners have announced they will open a second location nearby, Butcher and Rye, this June across from Heinz Hall in the former Palate space.
...
The new restaurant will seat 85 and feature a menu similar to the popular gastro pub, with perhaps slightly smaller plates. Sticking with a winning formula, it will specialize in classic cocktails, bourbon and rye. The Meat and Potatoes sous chef will move over to the new location, which promises the same farm-to-table fare that has made Meat & Potatoes an award-winning favorite.

Nice. That Palate space has been closed for a long time, good to see it open again, and Meat and Potatoes is one of my favorite places.

The Palate space is directly across 6th St from Heinz Hall, which is below a garage but I think you're talking about the next block over. Olive or Twist is not in the same block as Palate/new restaurant.

Really glad they're expanding and I know they'll crush it, but it would have been nice to see them deviate a bit more from the M&P concept with this second one. It sounds like it's going to be close to a carbon copy.

After 63 years of operation, Tambellini Seventh Street Ristorante Downtown will close at the end of tonight's dinner service....Mr. Pellegrini will remain owner of the building that will house a new concept from Suzanne Hrach: Proper Brick Oven and Tap Room, which will open as early as this summer after a full interior renovation.
"You know, we had a nice offer," Mr. Pellegrini said. "Restaurants are a younger person's game. We are getting long in the tooth."
Ms. Hrach will offer 30 draught beers -- with an emphasis on local breweries -- and 20 wines on tap. The menu at the 99-seat eatery will showcase pizza with seasonal toppings, made in a wood-burning oven. The renovated interior will be "modern, casual and relaxed," she said.

Never heard of anyone going to that place... Proper sounds like a positive development for Downtown.

I was there once last year and it seemed like a pretty sad place that might have been nice thirty years ago but wasn't really trying anymore.

Not 100% sure, but I thought that was the first. It was not bad about 20 or so years ago. Very popular place before going to a show, but that was a very long time ago. They had very good fried zucchini, but I don't think that kind of food is in much these days. I would say most tables started with that as an app. There was usually a wait to get in on weekends.

Anyway, I think it was due to change.
