The Pitt Boook Center carries the book "Ghost Stories of Pittsburgh". I just reserved two copies of it and they have at least one more.

I have lived in three old houses since moving to Pittsburgh. The only thing I have experienced is one night I was asleep (only person in my house) and I woke up to find the lamp beside my bed was on. It's possible that I might have been half asleep and turned it on and fell back asleep, but it was still pretty spooky!

Gather around boils and ghouls, and prepare for a tale of the macabre!

Along the lonely highways lurks an entity so dark and so scary that it has been known to come from the depths of the beyond. A being so terrifying that it will make your skin crawl and your blood boil. A creature so dastardly and vile that it makes witches and goblins cower in it's presence. This living, breathing, monstrosity is known as.....

PENNDOT!!!!

Beware children, beware!

I think the old Dixmont mental hospital site in Kilbuck is haunted-as so many others believe as well.

Walmart tried , in vain, for about 5 years to build a store on that site but encountered nothing but one problem after another.
They first encountered problems with tearing down the asbestos lined smokestack of the old building. Then they had problems figuring out the sewer lines from the site. After clearing the old building and the land they were levelling the whole hillside slid down onto Rt. 65 and the adjacent railroad tracks. After cleaning all that up the hillside slid down on the highway again.
Walmart finally gave up after losing millions and all that time, trying to build that store. They are still working at restoring the hillside.

I've always heard the Ghost stories of Pittsburgh and Dixmont Hospital was always a part of them. I've also heard the land there is the site of an Indian burial ground so it doesn't surprise me all this occurred there. I think there were too many events that happened to pass it off as being coincidental.

Never mind -- I didn't realize that the tunnel monster was a Pittsburgh thing -- out here tunnel slowdowns are caused by people thinking their cars might not fit.
