Cyclists upset about casino's 'no ride' policy on trail

Cyclists should be able to ride past the Rivers Casino, Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl said today, in response to a chorus of concerns about a walk-your-bike policy along that section of the North Shore trail.

Cyclists who endured the lengthy closure of the trail during the casino's construction were upset to learn, over the weekend, that they had to walk their bikes in front of the slots venue.

Ridiculous. I just called them and left a lengthy message. I was planning on going this weekend just to check it out, but I won't be visiting until this is resolved.

I urge everyone to call and let them know your thoughts. 412-231-7777. Make sure they don't pass you off to security like they tried to do to me. Management.

Haha...all I got was voicemail. It wasn't just me. The Bike PGH forums and a couple other boards are pretty fired up. I know a bunch of people were calling them. I'm guessing they were swamped with complaints after that PG article ran.

It is amusing (and cool) to see Big Bike throwing its weight around Pittsburgh these days.

From the PG online:
Rivers Casino spokesman Dan Fee said the wording on the sign was always viewed as temporary. "It would have helped if the biking community called us to see what the facts were before they started alerting the media," he said.

That statement is so full of BS you could fertilize Kansas with it. Seems they never would have changed it if it weren't for all the negative publicity.

I know for a fact that a number of cyclists did attempt to contact the casino first and were given the cold shoulder.
