I just finished my first month of injections at the doctor's office---1,000mg every day for a week, 1,000mg once a week for a month. I'll be due for my first monthly shot in a couple of weeks. I plan to eventually give my own injections once we have this all straightened out.

I'll respond via PM with more details....

It was definitely helpful. I've known my entire life that exhaustion and fatique was a sign of anemia. I didn't know how life altering it can become. I've complained my entire life about being tired. I didn't know what tired was until the B12 deficiency hit.

Awe, thanks! That's sweet of you to say.

Hanging out here is one of the ways I'm trying to regain my short term memory.

We both benefit!

I'm really glad you said something, because aside from what I hear, I am no Autism expert. I do know that the gluten-free diet worked GREAT in this one instance, and might be something to check out. I agree with you 100% that you must be careful! It looks like you know more about the effects of such diets than I do!
Thanks for the heads-up boylocke. I've read much about these diets, and am interested in finding out if they'd make a difference for ds. Apparently there are blood & urine tests that can reveal if gluten and casein are problems. I don't want to experiment with the diets, though, without the blood tests because ds LOVES all noodles and dairy, and because I worry about the potential negative effects of such a drastic dietary change that isn't warranted. The problem, though, is that the doctors we've been able to see in our part of the world don't think diet is an issue

Well people with Celiac Disease have to go on a gluten-free diet. It shouldn't affect much in terms of nutrition but you still need to be careful. Essentially, you would cut out wheat, barley, rye, oats and triticale. In place of these essential grains, you CAN use corn, potato, rice, tapioca, buckwheat, and soy. It's really not that damaging of a diet, it affects little in terms of vitamins and you are fortunate to have alternatives that are easy nutritional replacements. It really did work WONDERS for his little boy. Something to look into but be careful
