"Since Pitt is so full of older people, do you think they may have a different perspective than what the responses are on this thread?"

Absolutely. I don't even want to get into what some of my older (70+) relatives would think or say, except that they have an incessant need to classify people into ethnic slots. And not just black, white, Asian ("Oriental"), middle Eastern ("Arab"), or Hispanic ("Mexican") -- but also German, Italian, Irish, Polish, etc. But the previous poster was exactly right that you can greatly insulate yourself from such folks, most of whom aren't mean-spirited at all, but have simply had very little real-life exposure to anyone from another part of the country or world.

my wife hasn't had problems so far, people have been friendly, and curious with regards to her ethnicity. I suppose she's somewhat exotic for the area. actually, she didn't have any issues in central PA either, where there were far more anti-wind farm signs than anything else. (for a city guy, seeing signs about saving the environment from wind farms brought a smile). as I've said before, if Pitt becomes known for opportunity, you will see more immigrants from all walks of life (dishwashers to doctors). and I wouldn't want all doctors, after all, doctors don't open restaurants, it's the people who start as dishwashers that end up opening restaurants and serving tasty tacos or ropa vieja. my wife was very hesitant about pitt, thinking everyone was racist at worst, or that it was "some dump like cleveland" at best. she's been surprised that it's neither of those things, a bit too quiet, but there's a lot to like.
