Those Irish and Italians sure didn't like each other in the 19th century!

Pittsburgh Riot - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I found this when I was searching google for pictures of G-20 riot police!

I opened this expecting to hear an actual riot in Pittsburgh, probably because I'm oblivious to the local news, haha.

That was the intent. Otherwise it could have said Pittsburgh Riot 1886. But that wouldn't be as exciting right now, would it?

That's actually fairly interesting. Pittsburgh in the mid to late 19th century was as much a melding pot of cultures as was NYC, where you hear stories about the race riots that happened there all the time. Pittsburgh basically grew up on the backs of the second-generation U.S. immigrants (Irish, Italian, Polish). So while this doesn't surprise me that something like this happened, I am surprised I never heard of this event.

However I also agree with the other responses that its seems like you might have put this up for "shock value" with the upcoming G-20 madness predicted by so many paranoid citizens.

Hopes posts quite a bit of the content on this forum. It's ok with me if she has a little fun once in a while.

(And, yes, it was interesting.)

You're kidding or being ironic right?

It certainly wasn't the only riot in Pittsburgh history.

I do find it interesting that it's characterized as a "race riot" though. Irish and Italians are different races? There's got to be a lesson in there about our views on "race" today...
