Beto's on Banksville is the ONLY place I've seen that puts all the toppings on cold. Back in the 80's, I was there quite a bit, stop by every now and then when I'm in the South for biz. Used to run into John Steigerwald getting a slice on his way into KDKA. Good pizza when it's fresh.

I don't think there is a "Pittsburgh" style pizza. So many different outlets with great taste and different styles: Vincent's in Forest Hills;Aiello's, Mineo's or Napoli's in Squirrel Hill; Luciano's in North Hills; Fiore's in the South; Hell, even a chain like Pizza Hut gets it right every now and then.

Pizza's like sex, it's never bad. Even when it's lousy.

Steak and French Fries, maybe even with cheddar cheese!

BTW, other than The chicago area, isn't "NY Style" the norm everywhere?

Finally, a thread the strikes to the heart of things.

I once had pizza in Sweden. Thin, crust, pretty good sauce, with little nuggets of something I could not quite recognize sparsely spread over it...Funny thing was all the pizza places were run by Lebanese! If you have ever had Swedish cuisine, you will never complain about American pizza again! Google "Surstroming." In Iceland, the local delicacy is hakarl. Google that too, and be very thankful...

I had pizza in both Rome & Milano.

But...probably lost on me, and I much preferred New York style pizza.

I've had New York-style pizza in New York. It's great of course, but I've had pizza as good in D.C. and Philadelphia. The best NY-style pizza I've had in Pittsburgh so far is a newish place called (best name ever) Large Plain, on Babcock in the North Hills. Anybody who thinks Pittsburgh pizza is bad has never lived on the West Coast. Also, my girlfriend visited St. Louis last year and I heard all about their style of pizza. Sounded like something out of a nightmare.

Chicago-style pizza is gross.

One consistent theme I see (AND LIKE) is that Chicago pizza is NOT considered good in Pittsburgh!

GOOD. That mean more NY style...

I've had pizza in Rome, Florence, and Venice. It was all pretty good but not quite to my tastes--but some of the best pizza I ever had was in Budapest (Budapest in general seemed to have excellent food).

Some of the best pizza I've had was in Atlanta (Grant Central and some sadly defunct place I cant remember the name of, which had 14 inch slices. Camelli's, I think). You never know where you'll find excellent pizza.
