I will not have any further response to The President as it is OFF TOPIC. I am sorry I added my "jab" at him in my first post.

As I said prior, gambling & casinos are a losing proposition.

They sure didn't have established clientele when they opened a couple years ago. Think about that. LOL

My girlfriend works at the casino near the Meadows. The patrons are addicted slot players, not into the races at all.

I got my hair cut last night, and my stylist was saying that she and a friend went a few weeks ago, and she'll never go back because the service was so terrible.

The only 'good' thing I'm hearing, thus far, about that casino is about how GREAT the buffet is.

I am sad to say that I regularly get roped in to go to the Meadows with my MIL (the casino part) and I would agree with Hopes - these are people who are committed slot players. The fact that there is a track there is irrelevant to them. Also, in my 50s, I am one of the youngest people there, apart from the staff. It is the most boring thing I think, and I often take a book.

I do wonder when they were researching this what they thought their ideal punter was going to be. Being out in the sticks, the Meadows must have lower overheads so it can make money with their pensioner patrons.

If the Rivers had table games, I could see a lot more of the sports crowd making a day/weekend of going to a game and then hanging out at the casino for a while. As it stands now, that's not going to happen.

The question is why? The current numbers indicate that adding table games would increase the Rivers Casino overall revenues, but they would still trail the revenues of other PA Casinos with table games.

The Casino was projected to be the or one of the best revenue earners in the state, and its just not happeing. I blame poor management, marketing, and presentation.
Do they allow smoking? If they don't that could be the problem.

The one in Washington does and the one time we went it was hard to breathe in there. It looked like the majority of people sitting there had a drink in one hand and a cigarette in the other.

We would go if the DIDN'T allow smoking, but I think we are in the minority.

The only people who makes money from gambling is the people who owns the casino.
I'm so tired of hearing people say things like this; you're missing the point of casinos entirely. I think people who go to casinos solely to make money are in the minority; most people go for entertainment purposes. I could go spend 20 bucks at the casino for an hour or so or I could spend the same amount going to a movie or a ball game -- and with ZERO chance of getting any back.

Anyway, I agree about the economy though, I don't have much money to spend on casinos or movies.

Yes - they have designated smoking areas where you can play slots and puff away.
