Westmoreland ER is overwhelmed and often on standby so I'm not sure what will happen. I think making the ER into an urgicenter is a good alternative to closing it all together, though. I personally wouldn't go to Westmoreland because of all the chaos, and a lot of people I know feel the same way. I drive to Latrobe or Pittsburgh. I don't think that hospital realizes what a bad name it has in the community. They keep getting business because there is nowhere else to go but if there was people would go elsewhere.
Yeah, I've always preferred Jeannette to Westmoreland also because it's smaller and less busier, but since Latrobe is too far and there's no other alternatives, I guess I'll have to stick to Westmoreland.

The location is convenient to Pittsburgh's east end hub and Monroeville. And the houses are very, very affordable. Those are two good reasons in my book.

I never understood the reason for having a hospital in Braddock anyway. How many towns of 2000 people have a hospital down the street? UPMC was brave to stay there and hang in as long as they did. What is needed is industry and business, not more social programs and governments run entitlements. But, with a limited work force you will never have that. The best of Braddock is in the past.

My problem with the complaints about Braddock hospital was that it was needed because many people in the community had no transportation to get elsewhere. But, given the topography of the area and the fact that no one lives in Braddock or Rankin, there were max like 2500 people that could walk there - and that is not enough to justify a full-service hospital. So, if you have to get a ride to Braddock Hospital, you could just as easily go to McKeesport or Pittsburgh, which are both less than 10 miles away.
