What are some popular card games/board games played among Pittsburghers?

For example, where I grew up in Michigan...EUCHRE was #1 by far...Michigan Rummy was up there...then games like Hearts and Spades...Poker is a recent big one. EUCHRE dominated at family get togethers and college dorms though.

How about in and around Pittsburgh?

Gin Rummy/500 was always popular in my family growing up.

Recently, I've been trying to get my family and friends to start playing Backgammon. It's by far more interesting to play than Checkers in my opinion, it's less about direct strategy and more about chance and risk analysis.

Yeah, checkers was another hugely popular game in Michigan. Probably second to euchre.

I also agree that backgammon is more interesting than checkers as well.

Chess and backgammon were the daily standard in my family.

Pinochle is popular among adults who invite friends for an evening of dinner and cards.

When I was a teen, we played a card game called Spit---a speed game. Loved that game, but can't remember the rules.

Settlers of Catan is a board game most of my friends have been playing/talking about lately. First time that's happened with a board game. It's not really a Pittsburgh tradition or anything though...it's more a national thing now.

Wish people played Euchre here! I miss it!

My family played many late night 500 and Euchre games when we all got together at the holidays.
