My parents are coming up from Cincinnati to go to the Pitt-UC game on December 5 (they're UC alums, I live here, it seemed like a win-win situation.) Anyway, after seeing the traffic mess on Saturday for the Notre Dame game, what/how is the best way to actually get to the stadium? Should they attempt to drive? Are there shuttles from anywhere? I live near the T line, so that's an option, but my parents are in their 70s, and while not feeble, they probably don't want to do too much walking.

You might consider parking at Station Square and taking the shuttle over to the game. Not much walking, you could drop them off at the entrance to the Clipper Fleet and then go park.

You could try this:
Pittsburgh Water Limo

They dock near the Cork Factory and it costs very little. My wife and I road it a few months ago, good time.

We took the Pittsburgh Water Limo from the 6th street bridge to Heinz Field on Sunday. It was really nice.

Anyway...
Have your parents go early if possible. Pregame can help kill time (2 hours before kickoff).
Where do they plan on parking?

I would second the Station Square idea. We have season tickets, but we park downtown and walk across the Ft. Duquesne bridge. That's probably farther than you want for your parents. The Clipper drops you off right outside Gate A. It has one shuttle that returns some time in the 3rd quarter and then as many as needed after the game. Plus, there will be places for you to take them at Station Square to drown their sorrows after Pitt wins .

As for the traffic mess, it was non-existent if you parked downtown.

Semi off topic.

I was downtown Saturday night chauffeuring my wife and Mother-in-law to the Rockettes. It was GREAT seeing Pgh busy like that. Tons of people everywhere, I'm guessing the bars/restaurants did well.

Thanks for the suggestions, all. I'll definitely be looking into the Clipper/Water Limo options.

Where's the best place to park downtown to walk over to Heinz, and how much does it cost to park?

THAT depends on how you define 'best'.

We park at the bus station for $5.
That works for us because we are way out of post-game traffic - vehicular AND pedestrian. And we have easy access to the Parkway East.

Yes, it is a bit of a hike, but that is 'best' for us.

Closest and cheapest is the Casino - if you are a player, it's free!

We like the Gateway Center lot under Palomino's restaurant (entries on Blvd of the Allies and . It is $6 on Saturdays and an easy walk to the Point and over the bridge. It does get full easily, though. Our 2nd choice is the garage at the corner of Stanwix and 4th Ave. (entry on Stanwix). It is also either $5 or $6 on Saturdays. It didn't work for the Notre Dame game, though, because it closed at 10pm.

Thanks again, guys. In todays installment of "ask a stupid question"--is the pedestrian walkway over the bridge well-marked? I'm assuming we can follow other people who seem to be going that way. I just don't want to have my parents traipsing around downtown in the cold more than they need to.
