I'm just wondering what cheap actually means? Cheap compared to NYC? Cheap compared to Chicago? whats cheap?

What could 150G's land you? A good house in a crappy neighborhood? A crappy house in a good neighborhood?

Just wondering about the age of the house, square footage, lot size, how far from the city, beds, baths, etc...

Thanks

You can get a GREAT CONDO for that type of cash. But you lose all your rights as a US citizen.

There's a home in that price range in almost every school district.

Here's what 140k-160k will get you:

Howard Hanna Real Estate Services - Property - Proplist

That's 949 lists for single family detached homes in the Pittsburgh metro area.

So 150K isn't an unreasonable starting point? Here is AZ, you can find a lot of houses for under 100K if you really want.. but they are sooooo far away from anything worth living near.. If you want a good house in a good town near a freeway.. you gotta spend atleast 200K.. So if there is a lot of options in Pittsburgh, than that tells me PHG is cheaper than Phoenix!

Not when you're searching real estate websites!

Take a look. They are designated as "single family homes" "condos or townhouses" "duplexes."

I'm not making this stuff up!

You're facetious today!

It's a very reasonable starting point. There are houses in the price range in almost every township.

Of course, you'll get a bigger house in a less desirable area and a smaller house in a more desirable area.

Overall, 150k can put you solidly into most middle to upper middle class townships.

Strangely, most of Pittsburgh's most expensive neighborhoods aren't in convenient locations!

Pittsburgh's real estate market is what makes Pittsburgh have such a low cost of living.

You'll find that our food and utilities are sometimes more expensive than many areas of the county.

I have no idea why it's like that, but overall the cost of living remains lower here because of the real estate.
