Just an aside...it seems Erie PA is a popular summer destination.

Are there reasonable substitutes in Pittsburgh...thinking of either swimming pool destinations (I think I even heard of 'wave pools' which I've never been, but curious about)...or locations where sunbathers go (maybe like a Central Park NYC type thing in the parks)...

Where are those types of places in Pittsburgh?

Sandcastle Sandcastle Waterpark

North Park and South Park are two huge county park pools. There are countless other community pools.

There's also a wave pool at Boyce Park. In Oakland, in-between Pitt and CMU, lots of people sunbathe at Schenley Plaza and Flagstaff Hill, both in Schenley Park.

I was also going to mention Schenley, and lots of sunbathers also hang out in Frick Park on the Beechwood Boulevard side.

There's Sandcastles water park in Homestead.

Just outside of Allegheny County is Moraine State Park with a lake beach and boating.

Speaking of boating, let's not forget that Pittsburgh has three rivers where people have lots of summer fun.

In addition to the county pools already mentioned, almost every township has a township pool and the city has quite a few pools too.

Point Park has been under construction recently, but people do sunbathe over on the North Shore and I am sure they will do it at Point Park when it is suitable.

I would go with the North Shore as well, if there weren't geese over there.

There is also the Settler's Cabin wave pool near Robinson--it's been a couple years since I've been but every time I went it was very crowded.

Does anybody have info on the pool at Schenley park? Memberships, fees, anything...I'm living very close this summer and would like a pool to go to.
