B-94 becomes KDKA All Sports Radio

I am suprised that no one made a stink about loosing a really good radio station.

The WAMO people went nuts when their station was removed from the air.

I still have not yet heard a signal coming out of that channel yet 93.7, but I would guess that once one station does it that the rest are sure to follow.

We will all be listening to XM radio soon and paying to hear our favorite tunes.

Because, like other radio stations in Pittsburgh, B94 sucked.

i never even noticed.

My #1 fallback is WRCT, 88.3FM. CMU's station will often provide something i enjoy listening to. You could never accuse them of killing a song, at least.

THe "X" has the "prehistoric X" show, and i think the 10am weekday hour plays 90s alternative. both are reasons i listen to that station.

Anyway, whether or not the new format is a bad thing is a matter of opinion. I think the reason why the OP has not noticed an outcry is simply because people prefer the new format. Personally I am ecstatic with the change. Pittsburgh lacked an all-local sports talk channel on the FM dial.

Besides, if the original format was that populat it would not have changed in the first place.

I'd really suggest to anybody out there who's frustrated with Pittsburgh radio to invest in a sattelite radio receiver. It was already built into the stock head unit of a car that I bought two years ago, so I gave it a go, and I haven't bothered with FM radio ever since. It might not be for everybody, but in the very least it solves a lot of the boredom issues, exposes you to things that you'd never hear around here anyway, and makes radio fun again.

Standard radio sucks, period. WYEP can be good sometimes, and WDUQ for NPR stuff, and basically no other reason to listen to standard radio in Pittsburgh. Commercials every two seconds and/or LONG banks of commercials. Terrible music if you want music.

Sat radio is the way to go.

93.7 The Fan is the best thing to come to Pittsburgh radio in a long time.

You can still hear Lady Gaga on some other channels.

True about pop radio, not so true about sports radio. You can still hear sports radio on some other channels. Why not a real alternative staion (not the teenybopper X) or the R+B format that was left after WAMO was stolen off the air. (We can get rid of one of the Froggylopoly stations)

I agree about rock radio....WDVE is great for classic rock, but 105.9 is almost painful anymore and doesn't do anything to support what's going on with modern rock. They're stuck in 90s la-la land and need to realize that we're now two decades past grunge and flannel. We need a really good Indy station or something like that. It's funny how half the bands that sell out Mr. Smalls and the other top venues in Pittsburgh aren't even played on local radio. Kind of shows you how powerful the internet and youtube have become and how out of touch our radio promoters currently are with what's going on in the world. Anybody want to open up a radio station with me? I think there's a goldmine of an untapped market out there.

It seems like the X is too concentrated nowadays with sports since you've got Mark Madden in the evenings and Pens games throughout the week. If anything, they should've took the X and made it into an all-talk sports station, kept B94 and made an entirely new rock station. I never really hear metal on any of the stations, and if they play it, it's usually always Metallica. Why is there no variety these days? I was pissed when they converted Greensburg's Sam FM with some classic hits station. At least it played some decent music unlike the oldies crap they have now. There's three other stations in the area that play the same stuff.
