I used to work for a company in the area that divided the company in to two groups. Everyone worked 8 - 9 hour days and 1 - 8 hour day (usually the Thursday before your Friday off) and had every other Friday off. The groups alternated Fridays. That way there was always a backup person to the person who was out. It worked out well.

Many healthcare professionals can get on 3-12's and get paid for 40. I think some places make them pick up that extra day every other week while others don't.

I'd love to do it but having to deal with contractors, customers and vendors from all over the world all on different schedules, we need to be in for 5 days a week.

I would like 4/10 hr days as well. Either Friday or Monday works as far as having a 3 day weekend. Hard to find places that will do that though.

When we opened our business we went with a four day work week. We chose Wednesdays. We're never too far from a day off.

We also use the motto of we don't work if there's no chance we're getting a check that day. In other words, we don't work when the Post Office is closed.

At 50, 12 years into janitorial work, I'm looking forward to retirement where I don't have to deal with scummy people anymore. Latest -- chain smoking in the stairwells, stubbing the cigarettes out on the walls (burns the walls) piles of ashes left on the carpet and the butts left all over, too.
