Hello All,

I currently live in not-so-good school district in Pittsburgh. My son is going to a Montessori and the fees is getting way too high. He is eligible for Kindergarten in Sep 2010 and we are planning to move to North Allegheny school district.

I am finding very difficult to find an apartment. We are looking for 2 BR and 2 bath apartment with a decent rent ($900- $1100 should be fine). Please suggest me some nice apt complex.

TIA..

There's an apartment community on Duncan Avenue across from the Allegheny County Memorial Park Cemetery. It's called Royal Manor Apartments and it's definitely in the North Allegheny School District.

Royal Manor Apartments offers one and two bedroom apartments in a park-like setting that's only minutes from downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Another apartment community is the Presidential Arms Apartments near North Park on Presidential Drive between Peebles Road and Babcock Boulevard. It's also in the North Allegheny School district.

Presidential Arms - Allison Park - Pennsylvania - Apartments for Rent

I forget the name of the apartment community near LaRoche College. It's more expensive. It's on the corner of Babcock Blvd and Duncan Ave if you want to take a drive there.

Oh, and there's also an apartment community next to Allegheny County Community College North on Route 19. Not sure of the name of that one either, but it's located on the same driveway as CCAC North if you decide to take a drive to find it.

The one next to CCAC is I believe The Oaks of McCandless. Oaks of McCandless Rent there is right in your range looks like; can't vouch for what the place is like though (shows overall decent on Apartment Ratings).

The LaRoche one is the Club at North Hills, looks like. It's a bit out of the price range, showing over $1200 for the 2BR/2BA.

This one is interesting. Taylor Ridge Apartments for Rent | Apartment Finder Appears to be in your price range. Don't let the Sewickley address/zip code fool you. It's in Franklin Park (N. Allegheny schools) near the Wexford interchange of I-79. Pretty close to Franklin Elementary where you son would attend school. Almost nothing else but residential in that area, although there is the fairly new YMCA right on the same road. More rural feel (well, as much as can be in apt complex) but less convenient for shopping perhaps.

Hickory Hills is in N. Allegheny, shows bad on Apartment Ratings. Royal Manor also shows bad.

Sherbrook which is near N. Allegheny high school appears to be within the borders. Not a horrible rating. Hard to tell if those ratings are worth much; usually the negatives are more likely to say anything, but then again on those the positives are perhaps more likely to be shills? Dunno.

Although there are no ratings, unless you need to be closer to McKnight corridor for work or such, if it were me I'd probably check out that Taylor Ridge. See if you can talk to some people who currently live there, though (goes for anywhere, really).

What I like about Presidential Arms is that it has a pool and clubhouse, and it's in a wooded setting next to North Park.

There's nothing like having a huge county park literally right outside your front door.

Looks like you might sacrifice the second bath there (Presidential Arms) though. We've been living with just one for years, but 2 bath is on our wish list for next time. Certainly can understand why people want it. :-) Then again, being next to North Park is not a bad tradeoff. Gotta decide what is most important.

Taylor Ridge, FWIW, just thinking again, may sorta back up to I-79. If there's a noise issue, you may get a feel for it while there. Something to pay attention to.

Guessing there must be a few individual rentals out there too, duplexes and such, small buildings. Maybe even a townhouse close to that price range somewhere. Check Craigslist. I don't know where else you might need to be close to if anything, but if none of these places are suiting there are certainly other good school districts you could choose that may have better rental options (or may not; just suggesting that you not limit yourself unnecessarily as several other school districts in that area including Pine-Richland, Hampton, North Hills, etc. are also good.)

Good idea about Craig's List.

Here's a nice 3 bedroom house in Franklin Park for $900: HOUSE - HUGE LOT (http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/apa/1681264557.html - broken link)

Here's a 3 bedroom house in Ingomar for $900 (only 1 bath though): GREAT LOCATION-McCandless (http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/apa/1676363794.html - broken link)

Here's another 3 bedroom house in Ingomar for $925: Amazing location, spacious rooms, North Allegheny schools (http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/apa/1674943987.html - broken link)

I wonder if the OP would consider other school districts that are in safe areas.

Thank you Hopes & Greg for the info.. I will check all these apartments. I did check in Taylor Ridge earlier, the floor plan and rent all looks good. But the lease breakage is 60 day notice and $3000. This looks like heavy $$$. Is this very common.. How to deal with it when just in case I need to break my lease

Hickory Hills Apartments on Rinaman Rd. is not bad. I dated a girl who lived there ~ 3-4 years ago and got to know the complex pretty well. There are numerous buildings and townhouses in the complex, I'm sure some are better than others. It seemed like a nice, quiet place to live. I can't imagine it would be out of your price range for a 2 br apt.

I am not sure if any of the apartment complexes mentioned are conducive to families with children. You would probably be better suited living in a rental house or 1/2 duplex in NA, with very little difference in the cost of the rental in comparison to the apartment. Craigslist has these rental homes/duplexes often available.

Many of those apartment complexes are filled with children.
