That is so true! I live an hour north of Pittsburgh, and I've seen ads for "administrative assistant", requiring a four-year degree, paying $9.00 -$10.00 an hour! (I have an associate's degree myself, and it's always stood me in good stead for 30 years, up until now). I applied for a legal assistant position (of which I have ten years experience). The advertisement was for legal assistant/receptionist, meaning the primary duties would be legal assistant, plus receptionist duties (two for the price of one) with legal experience and adept at microsoft word. What did it pay? $7.25 an hour!!!!!! The same firm was looking for a paralegal with a four-year degree. $8.25 an hour. I've applied at other firms in my area and the positions are ALWAYS "entry level" regardless of how much experience you have. So they can pay accordingly (crap), while still reaping the benefits of your knowledge. Any clerical job, especially administrative assistant, now expects you to have advanced education for slave labor and sweat shop wages.

I think this is a direct reflection of the job market here. Basically, since there are few good jobs people are willing to work for $10 an hour.
