I hope this is not a repetitive question, as there are many moving to Pittsburgh questions. So here goes...

I am looking to transfer with my job to the Pittsburgh area. I plan to be working in downtown, while my significant other will be working in Indiana.

What communities are there that would be a good central location between the two. My main priority is a good school system for my two children.

Any suggestions and/or input would be great appreciated!!

Thanks so much!

Go Pens!!

If you mean Indiana, PA then the half way point would probably be near Delmont.

Sorry, not a whole lot. Delmont is part of Westmoreland County and the school district's would be Franklin Regional or Greensburg-Salem depending on what area you may want to live in.

You are correct. Delmont would probably be one of the best options, and have the best options for a school system. It is a little closer to Pittsburgh, but the one going to Indiana would deal with less traffic.

Murrysville is your best bet. It's closer to Pittsburgh than Indiana, but the relative lack of traffic between Murrysville and Indiana compensates for that. You'd also be in a good school district (Franklin Regional).

Heh, my guess is even at Murrysville your commute to downtown will be far more hectic than the one to Indiana. But as the others said, that's about the right spot and in a good school district.

Commute in from the East is the worst, I'm guessing still over an hour from Murrysville at typical rush times, both directions. If it works okay for your schedule and responsibilities, you may want to look at the bus that Westmoreland Transit runs. Route 2F that begins in Latrobe makes a stop at Murrysville then is express to the city. It should cut the time a little because it uses the East Busway, in addition to you at least not actually having to drive while sitting in any traffic.

Even consider southern Washington Township which is near Murrysville in Westmoreland County. Most of Washington Township has an Apollo mailing address, but parts have a Murrysville address. The school district would be Kiski Area. I personally commute from Washington Township to Pittsburgh daily. I wouldn't call it "convenient" but for commuting into the city, I can access Route 28 at New Kensington just as easy as I can access the Parkway East. I would HIGHLY recommend taking Route 28 inbound versus the Parkway East. The Parkway sees drive times close to an hour to go 5 - 6 miles for no reason. A "good" morning is a drive time of about 30 minutes. Route 28 can get bad, but in my opinion, no where near as bad as the Parkway East.

So after that rant, yes, consider that general area of Westmoreland County. Your significant other can easily hit 22 out towards Indiana, or even depending on what part of Westmoreland County you're in, you can take Route 56 out of Apollo towards Indiana.
