A French drug company is seeking to offer American women something their European counterparts already have: a pill that works long after "the morning after."

The drug, dubbed ella, would be sold as a contraceptive -- one that could prevent pregnancy for as many as five days after unprotected sex.
New 'morning-after' pill, ella, raises debate over similarity to abortion drug - washingtonpost.com

Of course. This would limit surgical abortions so I dunno why even the anti-abortion crowd would oppose it.

How does the drug work? Would it induce an abortion of the egg? Could it cause an unhealthy level of vaginal bleeding? What are the known side effects? How does it react when combined with OTC or prescription medication? Would this be available with our without a prescription? What could happen if an immature and irresponsible teenager took them daily like a vitamin? These are questions that should be asked before voting yes.

If it interrupts a conception from occurring, they're against it, believe me.

New 'Morning After' Pill Works Five Days Later, Too : NPR

In fact, he pointed, out, during the clinical trials on ulipristal, some women actually did get pregnant, because they had already ovulated by the time they took the drug. And since the drug works by preventing ovulation, it was therefore too late for the drug to work as intended. But that does demonstrate, he says, that it does not cause abortion.
