Sadly the same could be said about Christianity. It isn't that the ideas are bad, but that some people are simply unaware of what they do and the implications. Place a bad person in charge and bad things can happen. doesn't matter the political system.... or do we want to forget the million dead in Iraq?

What is your (unimpeachable) source for "one million dead in Iraq" ?

Would you say the same thing about Nazism--that the ideas weren't bad but that bad people put those ideas into effect? Your attitude about communism is what helped sustain it for 60 years and still sustains it in places like Cuba, Viet Nam and North Korea. And why when communism has been repudiated in most of the places where it once ruled it holds place of honor on most American college campuses. In fact the ideas underlying communism are bad and need to be opposed for that reason no matter who purports to implement them. Communism, like Nazism its twin, elevates the collective or the state over the individual and so is prepared to sacrifice the individual whenever the needs of the collective demand it. And as the video makes plain, the rights of the individual gave way tens of millions of times while communism held sway.
It's about the religion of man in which man is his own god.
Communists are, by definition, Atheists.
Not necessarily.
People, as a group, need some sort of spiritual crutch. When you forcibly take that away (essentially forcing them to be atheists) they will automatically look to something else to fill that spiritual void.
When the 'exalted leader' puts him/herself in that position, naturally people will start worshiping them, especially if they give them basic supplies like food, water and shelter...even if they're substandard.
Faux religion (and real religion for that matter) is an easy way to control.
As Karl Marx said, 'religion is the opiate of the masses'. Bad people will use any means possible to gain power, even if it means using religion (or the skeleton of religion) to do so. Has nothing to do with the religion itself, or in this case...Atheism.
While what the communist did is horrific, let's not forget those manical leaders that have killed just as many but weren't communists:
Idi Amin
Chiang Kai-shek
Papa Doc and Baby Doc Duvalier
Adolph Hitler
The numerous African dictators that allowed tribal genocide
Emporer Hirohito
Dictators have one thing in common. The are evil, sick men who will do anything to stay in power. Communist or not.
Powerful video. I could have gone my whole life and been happy not to view it. But we need reminders that these people still exist and they need to be stopped.
