Exactly........all this nonsense is just that,for one thing, just the fact that we would be able to put more oil on the market, would give us leverage against opec and bring the price down. Secondly, seems to me if the federal government can prevent drilling in the first place, it could put stipulations on any oil being drilled domestically. Bottom line as long as there is oil in the ground THE WORLD will run on oil, and if we think we aren't going to we are doomed!
Maddow says oil independence is a myth because there is only one market for oil - the world market which sets the price.
That is true as far as it goes, but apparently she has forgotten about the Arab oil embargo of 1973 where people were getting into fights over their place in line at the gas station. We need to produce enough oil for our own use as a national security precaution in case there is another interruption in the overseas supply.

Sad that talking heads of infotainment shows have to educate people about common knowledge (oil being traded on international markets).
