I agree that politics is not something I initially would delve into in the beginning of a relationship.
But by the time you are ready for marriage I would think you would have a good idea of the persons belief system, ethics, morality etc. It's part of compatability.
Most marriages I see that are successful in the long term the couples line up together in their views.

I love discussing politics. So I could marry someone with opposite political views. I just couldn't marry someone who didn't like discussing politics at all.

I have a conservative detector at my door. When a conservative approaches, a trap door drops them into a pit where they are eaten alive by alligators. Getting rid of Republicans and helping feed an endangered species is a great feeling!

the polar opposite of me would be marrying a communist.
Now that in itself probably wouldnt be enough to deter me from marrying her, im secure in who i am. But i want to have children, and that would be a huge problem. i wouldnt want her influencing them in any way.

See, here is another reason to steer clear of liberals. Very violent.

If political views are not important to you, it should not matter. But if they did, you would either agree to never discuss politics which for me would be impossible or you would fuss and fight all the time. Every Sunday morning would be "hell day" as you and her watched the Sunday news shows and argued over each and every point. She would get offended when you say "the Republicans are f**in idiots" after watching one of them issue an apology to BP. That is what I said this morning and my wife agrees with me. We fight over other less important stuff like Dishnetwork or cable.

I said that to my spouse and he said "I love you babe." That was the end of the conversation.

I hope your wife never deviates from your political expectations.
