I answered no. No one has proven to me that we are, without doubt, obligated to follow a moral code. And no, consequence is not an obligation. I think preservation of the species is irrelevant because the human race only matters to humans. The world will spin whether we are moral, immoral, or amoral.

I believe the only immoral absolute is gratuitous cruelty. Deriving pleasure or satisfaction from harming others that are not trying to harm you or yours is simply immoral.

It's only immoral if you believe in morals to begin with. To someone who is amoral, that sort of activity is really no different than sleeping or going for a walk.

That's why I answered no to the OP's question. I don't believe in moral absolutes outside of society. Why would they exist outside of society? It's just another thing we made up.
