No mention of it being paid for though. They are going to need their 2 Republicans to pass it. I would also think they would have to now extend Unemployment further out then the November 30th deadline so people could claim all those extra weeks.

Truthfully at this point they just may need to address the 99ers specifically.

I know, you can say it's not fair, but to my mind the 99ers have "extenuating circumstances". Not to say that others won't going forward, but that remains to be seen.

They lost their jobs just B4 everything crashed and spent a good year with companies laying off & not hiring.

They were still unemployed after everything tanked and hiring was still not going on.

Now, they are not being hired [not that a lot of others are!] because they
- have been out of work too long
- have lousy credit from a long period of unemployment
- have aged a bit in those 99weeks, probably more than the 99 weeks

IF the economy & hiring are picking up, they are more likely to be the last ones hired.

I believe they deserve something directed at them specifically, addressing these problems, be it "workfare", or more weeks, &/or incentives to employers to hire them.

I know I have said it B4, but as a group they have ridden this thing all the way down, loosing much along the way, & even if it's turning uphill again, they deserve a special leg up.

Good post, nj185.

There could be a way, I'm sure, that Congress can make a stipulation re: once someone becomes a 99er they could transfer over to the extra weeks without it being called a tier (this sentence automatically includes all of those who already are 99ers, or have exhausted all their benefits--since some states don't give Tier IV or EB, some people are 99ers even thought they exhaust(ed) their benefits before 99 weeks).

LVdrunk posted it will be called the American wants to work act, which sounds like the 99ers are being addressed separately and specifically. That's a good thing. I'm not a 99er, but 99ers have suffered too long, IMHO and need help now.

Default Ed Schultz and his consistent advocacy for 99ers leads the way to recent TIER V news

After repeatedly having Senator Stabenow on his show (MSNBC's 'The ED SHOW') over the last 4 to 5 weeks or more and specifically urging and requesting her assistance towards the 99er cause ED Schultz finally had the fruits of his labor and effort (along with the 99ers that pushed and prodded) manifest itself by being the first to broadcast Stabenow's declaration that a TIER V is to be presented. There was a reason why Stabenow used Ed's show to announce the new legislation to be heard being that the number of times she was on placed additional pressure for her to act. There was also a reason why there was a need for at least ONE main media source to carry the 99er message and Ed championed the cause for the 99ers. Let's continue to be supportive of ED's efforts and his show by sending him the thanks that his persistence deserves.

And while you're at it, don't forget to thank Ed for this tactically brilliant advice for the 99ers! I'm sure that Stabenow appreciates this...

Ed's message was not lost though, that being that there can be frustration with picking between the Democrats (for not using their majority as effectively as they could have) and their rival party. The ULTIMATE message that no other main media is championing AND being effective with OTHER than Ed Schultz is that there needs to be 'urgency' among the legislators and the administration to move this 99er legislation along. The bigger message that he is presenting is not overshadowed by this other subject point you may use to distract. I'm sure you embrace the greater good Ed is championing (TIER V) and your not wanting to throw the baby out with the bath water. 99er's are better off WITH Ed's support than without, despite any nit picking by opposers to the recent good news from Stabenow. Let's continue to look at the greater good rather than try to discourage the progress in this piece of legislation and HOW it got to this recent announcement. Let me know if you need his contact number.
