Declared a state of emergency and limiting groups from gathering at night is nothing new. They did the same thing back in the '60s during the riots where I live and it worked to calm things down. States of emergencies orders get lifted and life goes on........

Well the smart ones here know exactly who this is aimed at. Most legal law abiding citizens are in their homes at night until they go to work in the morning not out shooting up the town. For those that work I am sure some sort of permit will be required but it is so the town can be safe.

Leave it to Fox News to bring out the really brilliant pundits, as usual.

Jovonne Brister shared similar sentiment of other Chester City residents - that people need jobs.
"They need to give people jobs, . . ."

They? Who the hell are "They"? Let's start with you, Jovonne. You hire one of these punks to work 40 hours a week for you at decent wages, with health insurance. He can do your child care, and all the work around the house, and your shopping. He can even balance your checkbook and go on line to do all your financial things. He'll be at your house at 8 sharp tomorrow morning, sober and neatly dressed and all set to go to work. That's all he needs. "They" have to give them jobs, because you sure as hell won't, will you? Why do you think anyone else wants to pay the guy $500 a week to keep him off the streets?

Jovonne, whoever you are, you are an absolute blooming idiot, and Fox News is going to make you a star. You'll fit right in at their pundits desk.

OP: Don't you realize that's a "riot"?

Some people have to petition their local government for some sort of permit to assemble. And the government can approve or deny it. Doesn't seem much like free assembly, does it?

I am old enough to remember when a Hassidic Jew ran over a little boy in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York which triggered massive rioting and martial law. The idea didn't catch on. After the crisis was over normal civil liberties returned. Why are you all going on about police state? What are the parallels between a true 'police state' in a facist dictatorship and a declared state of emergency within an American state? This is a city. When the governor of Pennsylvania shuts the entire state down from Dusk till Dawn and restricts free assembly I'd say you have something. As it is, what we have is white flight marginalizing a town which then loses essential services and oversight and is allowed to devolve into a social and economic dead zone. It could just as easily be Compton or Detroit or Baltimore City or St. Louis or Milwaukie or any of a half dozen other 'hoods' I could name. Chester is symptomatic of the divisiveness which grips this nation. Arming people will not solve the problem. What will? Well we could start with halting the exportation of economic opportunity. We could end the redlining of neighborhoods by race. Those two for a start.

What would your response have been to the riots during the 60s? Shoot everyone on the streets who looked like they might be about to burn down a house over overturn a car, even the innocent people on their way to work on the night shift? Declaring a State of Emergency is a useful tool of the police and it has not been abused. When it does get abused, then come back and we'll talk.

I agree. You leave = you don't get shot.

You are right. And wrong. Right in the sense that no one is going to hire an uneducated thug to do white collar work for which s/he is ill equipped by dint of training and/or personality. So? Execute them? That's the Lone Star way, isn't it? Terribly inefficient, isn't it? Really gets out the frustration though. Maybe next time you won't go across 3,000 miles of ocean and kidnap millions of decent, hardworking people, minding their own business, and destroy their spirit with decade upon decade of oppression and systematic exclusion. I hear the frustration in your post. I've got no sympathy.

Yeah, I agree. I agree they need jobs, but who really thinks they would actually take an opportunity to get hired?
