Wow, what an absolute smackdown, well deserved I must say.

Deepwater Drilling Ban Lifted by New Orleans Federal Judge - Bloomberg

Quote:
“The court is unable to divine or fathom a relationship between the findings and the immense scope of the moratorium,” Feldman said in his 22-page decision. “The blanket moratorium, with no parameters, seems to assume that because one rig failed and although no one yet fully knows why, all companies and rigs drilling new wells over 500 feet also universally present an imminent danger.”
Some common sense at last.

Judge halts Obama's oil-drilling ban - Washington Times

Quote:
A federal judge in New Orleans halted President Obama's deepwater drilling moratorium on Tuesday, saying the government never justified the ban and appeared to mislead the public in the wake of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
Well, that is what he does best. Lie and mislead.

Quote:
Those experts from the National Academy of Engineering have said they don't support the blanket ban.

"Much to the government's discomfort and this Court's uneasiness, the summary also states that 'the recommendations contained in this report have been peer-reviewed by seven experts identified by the National Academy of Engineering.' As the plaintiffs, and the experts themselves, pointedly observe, this statement was misleading," Judge Feldman said in his 22-page ruling.
Yes, a lie from Salazar that the media ignored.

When was the last time we shut down air travel becuase a plane crashed or even stopped a certain type of plane from flying due to a crash? The moritorium was arbitratry. No evidence suggested that all oil rigs or deep water drilling operations were unsafe. There was no concrete trigger to retore the operations, such as inspecting a critical component (like they sometimes do in the case of airline crashes and is usually done immediatly). Just a six month ban that could be extended at the whim of some federal bureaucrat. The judges decision was a no brainer. Good for him!

The federal government has the authority to regulate interstate commerce under the Constitution(such as drilling in federal waters), not abitrarily shut it down with no justification. They over stepped their bounds, especially considering the commission charged with looking into this did not reccommend a moritorium.

I think there was a report saying that 70% of the judges down there get gifts form the Oil companies , just like the politicians. So maybe we need to move this somewhere else. Like further inland.

It only takes one to destroy an entire ecosystem. I find it amusing that many people want government off their backs, want to drill and then when something happens they want the government to fix it. Sorry but you can't have it both ways. Drilling more wells without knowing how to stop a leak and not knowing what went wrong is downright stupid. But you know the thing about common sense DexterCat, it ain't so common.

Why, you think judges inland better understand the destruction taking place?

You find it amusing that many want government to do THEIR JOB?

Lol! Move them all to New Jersey perhaps? I doubt that many here think that would fix the problem.

Of course. Obama is an enemy of the people, so we can expect him to **** down the necks of those 30,000 people he "laid off" due to the moratorium.

I am glad that someone can stand up to this maniac, who seems intent on attacking US citizens. Let me get this straight-

1. Obama's minerals managment inspectors gave the rig a "pass" and subsequenty the well exploded. Perhaps Obama has some responsibility here?

2. Obama allowed the spill to progress from an accident into the worst environmental disaster in US history, through HIS INCOMPETENCE, thus "requiring" the moratorium. The only real moratorium needed would be on his making any further decisions as president, given his track record.

3. As a result of his incompetence, Obama is compelled to throw 30,000 people out of work. That makes perfect liberal sense. I do not think it will make sense to voters in 2012, who are probably wondering who's side this guy is on.

Salazar seeks to reimpose drilling moratorium

Quote:
Interior Secretary Ken Salazar says he will issue a new order imposing a moratorium on deepwater drilling after a federal judge struck down the existing one.

Salazar said in a statement Tuesday evening that the new order will contain additional information making clear why the six-month drilling pause was necessary in the wake of the Gulf oil spill. The judge in New Orleans who struck down the moratorium earlier in the day complained there wasn't enough justification for it.
The only logical explanation; We issued the moratorium, over objections of obama's expert panel because obama needed cover for his incompetent, inept response to the spill.
