And who pays the cost of policing the restrictions? You haven't any idea whatsoever what "diminishing returns" means, do you?

By the way, every single state lottery sale point in the United States is within about 5 steps of an ATM machine. Is that your next target on your crusade?

Welfare cards should be eliminated, and the money saved should be used for investments (infrastructure) or reduce the budget deficit !

Cost of Policing? All they have to do is a few software updates and put blocks/restrictions on the ATM's at the Casinos so they won't take these cards, after all it is 2010. These cards should be set up for neccessities only. BTW in California you cannot buy Lotto tickets on a Credit or debit card legally already. No Crusade at all, these funds are for feeding and taking care of your Family not gambling.

Remember you are talking to a person who thinks the internet can be shut down by the government and all the servers for it are in the US. Your example will be lost on him.

They are getting to much money if they are able to afford enough food and have some left over to gamble.

Food stamps should be a supplement to make sure someone doesnt starve to death. People getting them should be required to work so many hours a week if not do community service.

You have to wonder really why CA is in debt and asking for a federal bailout really.

Are we talking Food Stamp cards that are only used to buy food - or are we talking about cards that have different types of "money" on them? The reason I ask is because people are complaining about how people should be out buying food with the cards.. For those who don't know, certain types of cards (like these!) have Cash Benefits - meaning that the card can be used at an ATM or to buy whatever with. Example of Cash Benefits are Child Support (aka, not taxpayer money) or TANF (taxpayer money).

For the former, sometimes a mother will ask that Child Support is automatically loaded onto a "Welfare Card" instead of receiving a paper check or direct deposit. Either way, I don't think even Child Support should be gambled. But I don't see how using the Casino's ATM or the 7-11 down the street's ATM is going to stop the *expletive removed* mothers who would consider it.

For the latter, I would say that the people are disgusting... but, according to the article: The casinos are listed on a Department of Social Services website that allows welfare recipients to search for addresses of ATMs where they can withdraw cash provided under the Temporary Aid for Needy Families program.. So if the money was gambled and can be proven, their benefits should be removed. If the money was just pulled because of convenience, then so be it.

Do you need more proof that things are totally out of control?

If I need money then I usually go to the bank or use the ATM at the supermarket.

Going to a casino so I can use the ATM rather than my bank or supermarket just seems a bit odd. Somehow going to a casino to use the ATM overwhelming screams "use the cash for gambling".

Again..each to his own opinion.

They aren't that cheap. What is cheap to you? What is it $6 for a lunch then drink/tax/tip easy $9 for a meal.

Yep, extremely expensive considering I can make home made vegetable soup that will last for a weeks worth of meals (3 meals a day) for 30 dollars the first round of purchase (for spices, broth cubes, etc...) and 15-20 dollars for several weeks after that.

But hey, they probably think the value menu at a fast food restaurant is cheap eating. /boggle
