This is the worst kind of misinformation being spread.

The national debt ceiling was not zero when Bush left office; it was $10 trillion and counting every second.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_public_debt

The national debt is so high because it is

"[t]he Total National Debt is the Public Debt [defined here] plus the Intragovernmental Holdings. Intragovernmental Holdings are Government Account Series securities held by Government trust funds, revolving funds, and special funds; and Federal Financing Bank securities. A small amount of marketable securities are held by government accounts."

The Obama Debt Monitor*|*Tracking the US National Debt through the Obama Administration (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012)

and DONT FORGET INTEREST!

So -- to use the passive voice -- how much has been added to the national debt since Obama took office? (using PV because NOT all this money is the costs of his policies or his projects.)

Obama's National Debt Impact

Upon Inauguration: $10,626,877,048,913
As of Jun 22, 2010: $13,046,652,647,592

Increased by: $2,419,775,598,679

The Obama Debt Monitor*|*Tracking the US National Debt through the Obama Administration (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012)

Another source is the Washington Times: "At $13 trillion, that figure has risen by $2.4 trillion in about 500 days since President Obama took office, or an average of $4.9 billion a day. That's almost three times the daily average of $1.7 billion under the previous administration, and led Republicans on Wednesday to place blame squarely at the feet of Mr. Obama and his fellow Democrats."

So -- $2.4T. Obama has NOT added $13T to the deficit. But the RW media will try to persuade you that it's all from him. (They'll also tell you that he's running around throwing away your grandchildren's money like a drunken sailor, etc. -- also not true but a different topic.)

Okay, just like John 3:16, you've seen it and now you know the truth, you cant say otherwise.

So dont believe the lies.

as far as I know, no-one has said that 'obama' has run up a 13 trillion debt

what they have said is that in 8 years clinotn nearly doubled it from 3.5 to 5.87...in 8 years bush nearly doubled it from 5.87 to 10.6....and that in 18 months obama has run up nearly 2.5 trillion...well on his way to doubleing or tripling the debt

Thats 18 months into his term..
$2,419,775,598,679 / 18 = $134,431,977,704 per month
* 96 months (i.e. 8 years) = $12,905,469,859,584

So yes, thats $13T..

Noooooooooooo Are you serious

What people in this forum is posting is that the national debt is 13 trillion dollars and since Obama has been president that has increased over 2 trillion dollars. Which makes Obama responsible for that 2 trillion.

Yes, see OP. No, I dont want to go fetch people's posts, they extend over months. But they DO believe that he ran up this entire amount through irresponsible spending )another thread) and they spread it around and Im just here to show them that's not the fact.
