Exactly McChrystal implemented the guidelines, now Petraeus wants
to modify them:

Gen. David Petraeus is expected to modify the controversial rules of engagement
aimed at preventing civilian casualties when he takes over as top U.S. commander in
Afghanistan, Fox News Channel reported Friday, citing a military source close to Petraeus.

Gen. Stanley McChrystal, who resigned this week after his disparaging comments about
Obama administration officials were revealed in a Rolling Stone article, implemented
strict guidelines that restricted the use of air power and heavy weaponry in populated areas.

Time to leave the battlefield if that's what the pansy-a** obama is requiring from our soldiers.

I agree. We need to either win it or walk away.

Though I am an Atheist, I find the passage from the Book of Apocalypse (Revelation for you Protestants) 3:16 to be germane to this situation.
"So then, because thou art luke-warm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit thee out of my mouth."

Just because I'm not a believer doesn't mean I can't appreciate common sense, logic, and wisdom.

Ah, so those that died in the Iraq and Afgan war from 2001-2008 was due to a infalible strategy?

Yes, isn't the Commander in Chief the boss of the military?

The ROE now are nothing like they were in Vietnam

I am sure some ROE are different but they are still restrictive as they were in VN. do tell how different. we had to have permission to shoot then too. we also gave up ground we won only to move on the next day. fighting w/one hand tied behind your back, no matter if it is the right hand or left is still being hamstrung

Why, yes he is. A ridiculous, criminal rule - not allowed to fire on the enemy, as they butcher your buddies.

If you go to war, you go to win...right?

If not, you get out.

How does not being able to fire on the enemy, when the enemy is shooting at you, bring civilians into the issue?

More hyperbolic hysteria that shows they know not of what they speak. And if they do, they are intentionally attempting to mislead and obfuscate simply to attempt a misdirection attack.

Not even a good try.
And who do you think demanded those rules? After ALL the innocents civilians killed from predator strikes/bombs, ON OBAMA'S WATCH, they rules were "adjusted" to appease the politicians.

You don't tie the hands of your soldiers, in essence leaving them as sitting ducks.

But allowing your soldiers to be sitting ducks with inadequate equipment is alright?

Well another hysterically hypocritical thread from our thread authoress.

Before, our dear Sanrene howled and screamed that Obama's alleged dithering while reviewing Gen. McChrystal's plan for the future was unduly risking the lives of American troops and that instead of apply due diligence, the President should have accept the "judgement of the generals" with all haste.

Well, if anyone cares to look back on those threads you will find that I warned dearest Sanrene to be careful about what she wished for because it was painfully obvious to anyone who actually read Gen McChrystal's memo that his counterinsurgency plan would entail abandoning force protection in favor of rules of engagement designed to reduce the possibility of civilian casualties up to and including, breaking off an engagement if there was a possibility of civilian casualties.

So, pardon by guffaws of laughter after spotting this newest flight of politically inspired fantasy whereby Sanrene now howls and screams that the very plan that she insisted should be adopted, without question, has lead to an uptick in allied casualties!

Truly, life is strange and mysterious.
