Evansville, Ind. -- The Whirlpool Corp. plant in Evansville that has been the site of protests over its closure is producing its final refrigerators.

The plant's production line is shutting down today, meaning the loss of some 600 jobs. About 450 other workers were laid off in March when Whirlpool ended its second production shift.

Sounds like Whirlpools are selling better in Mexico and other foreign ports than in Evansville.

Then we need to put a huge tariff fee on Whirlpool to even bring those items back into America.

We need manufacturing jobs here and if they want to leave here and then sell them in America we should make them pay a heavy fee for doing so.

The only way we cans stop these companies from moving out of the US is to nail them to the wall with fees so they will be forced to stay right here.

They have a free market already, they just want to screw over America workers and of course hire someone for 2.00 and expect to send those items back into America for the same price.

PENALIZED ALL AMERICAN COMPANIES THAT HAS LEFT, IS LEAVING OR WANTS TO LEAVE.

Force them to stay right here by adding fees on them returning the goods to America.

Hey, lets do the liberal thing and just BOYCOTT WHIRLPOOL?

thats disgusting and we put up with it I'm glad I saw your post I was just considering a whirlpool dishwasher . was going to the store today to look at the brands I looked at online . the people in mexico come here to work and then what do we do but send our work there. The goverment should fine companies for it . Atax would be great . but would that put strains on our contact with Mexico .Alot of US citizens are chosing to live there because they say it's cheaper .Well guess what people come to VA you can buy a house for as little as 20 thousand .How many people spend that on a car and think they cannot afford a house .I try to look at everything I buy ,but it's getting harder to find U.S.A. built THINK PEOPLE WE ARE SELLING OURSELVES OUT

Where will Americans buy their refrigerator/freezers? If I recall, Whirlpool's business model was tied directly to Sears who basically has bit the dust.

There's not many American made refrigerators left that is affordable, so placing a tax on imports will only hurt the America public when it has to pay a higher price.

Reckon how much of the decision to move was influenced by a combination of government mandates and union pressure for more, more, more, of everything?

Do you guys seriously think that if NAFTA was never passed then Whirlpool would still be making refrigerators in Indiana?

Whirlpool would have shut it down no matter what. American manufacturing of cheap consumer products and appliances is dead. There is no profit in it (unless you want to be paying for $4000 fridges).

Learn to adapt and move on.
