The Supreme Court extended gun rights nationwide on Monday, casting doubt on Chicago's handgun bans.

The justices decided that the Second Amendment's right to "keep and bear arms" serves as a check on local and state gun control laws, as well as federal restrictions.

This is it from the article:

Quote:
WASHINGTON — The Constitution's "right to keep and bear arms" applies nationwide as a restraint on the ability of government to limit its application, the Supreme Court ruled Monday.
The justices cast doubt on a Chicago-area handgun ban that has been in place since 1982, but also signaled in their 5-4 decision that less severe restrictions could survive legal challenges.
Too bad the writers at BSNBC can't put together a more complete article that actually describes the impact of the ruling. Is this the case built upon Heller where the legality of the Chicago gun ban was supposed to be decided?

How childish to respond with a slam against MSNBC. The news just broke 2 minutes ago. Calm down.

If you need more details, it's easy to find them. And the MSNBC story already has more details:

Duh.

Default Duh...

The Bill Of Rights... what is so hard to comprehend about it? It is written clearly, but these activist judges want to legislate from the bench. I thank GOD, yes GOD, that those 5 interpreted the constitution and applied the law accordingly.

Glad to see them do the right thing but it bothers me that 4 voted against it. Do they not believe in the constitution?

God help us if the SC shifts to a liberal majority. The Bill of Rights will be shredded even more than it already is.

Hey thanks ConservaNuts for ruining America....how many of you actually care about the BoR anyway?

You are single-handedly destroying America one gun-nut at a time. Kudos.

The Bill of Rights was shredded by the Patriot Act. Until the right to carry firearms is extended to everywhere we will still be at risk of terrorism. Why should I trust air transport screeners to catch every potential terrorist. I would prefer to be able to shoot them when they pull out their box cutters.

On this I agree with the SCOTUS. On the citizenship of corporations I do not.

This is a good ruling but... what's with the 5-4 decision? The second amendment is there plain as day. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to interpret.
