What I really don't understand here is that from what I watched on news tonight, the funding that W vetoed would be of research using embryos that have already been created in fertility clinics and are slated to be destroyed. What is the problem with trying to derive some benefit from them?

As a taxpayer then I don't care to kill others in a war! However I'm required to pay taxes for that!
Bush's first veto was issued for a previous attempt to fund embryonic stem-cell research. His second veto as president came earlier this year on a measure that would have set a timetable for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq.
My guess is that you shouldn’t have it both way; you can’t send men and women to a war to kill and get killed, and you disallow the taking of embryos because it is taking a potential life (killing).

Some people care about protecting the life of unborn babies and some think they should be killed at will, war or no war.
