Damn City Slickers!

That is how I feed my family. He wants me to have to work, and buy steroid meat.

"We ought to ban hunting"
- Cass Sunstein, in a 2007 speech at Harvard University
Weren't you guys all claiming that Obama was going to take your guns away. As usual the claims never materialized, and in fact we have guys showing up to political rallies wearing guns.

Don't let reality get in the way or anything...

I can understand someone being against hunting and not participating. But why force your beliefs on others?
not forcing my belief on anyone, what gives you that idea??? I would prefer there was not hunting at all except if you use the meat to eat, or it is an absolute need to cull the heard.

as far as arrows being a more painful death, the prey is really screwed either way. the skill of the hunter using a gun or arrow is what really determines how much the animal might suffer before it dies. I think hunting w/a gun, rifle is really an unfair advantage that goes to the hunter, giving him the edge. where a bow I would guess the hunter has to get closer and be a bit more skilled at getting in shooting range, at least evening the field a bit more. doesn't seem very challenging or sporting to me to take down a deer from far away with a scope on a rifle. I have hunters in my family I tell them the same thing.

A hypothetical statement, in a research paper on the ethics of animal treatment.

I disagree with it, but it'll never happen. He isn't putting a policy forward, but this is his view. Its a fringe view, that'll never make law.
Sunstein doesn't want laws to stop hunting. He wants to keep throwing bits and pieces of crap and what he calls "nudging" to get people to agree with him. Yep, old Cass is one smart bugger but he does really think that animals should be able to sue their owners and like that.

An arrow through the lungs can take a long time to die. A 30-06 through the lungs causes tremendous shock damage as well as destroying the lungs.
I have hunted with both rifle and Bow. You seldom see a deer drop instantly from an arrow. A rifle however it is common. This means very little suffering.

Sometimes deer that have been shot get away.

That used to REALLY bother me.

Then an older hunter told me I was silly to feel that was.

The deer will still remain in the food chain. The coyotes have to eat too.

Two beauties right there. I can't wait for deer season to get here, I am completely out of venison. I haven't bow hunt in close to 10 years, may have to give it another go.

I agree.

That is one reason hubby uses a cross bow now. They will drop as they do with a gun.

I doubt they're feeling much with an arrow to the bread box.

Pure adrenaline is the only thing keeping them running after their hit, they generally don't run far. If it's a clearing, you can watch them drop just like a stone after 1-200 yards. Pure adrenaline.
