This is how the Republican's want to fix things. By making you wait longer to retire.

John Boehner: Raise Social Security Retirement Age to 70 - Political Hotsheet - CBS News

Quote:
House Republican Leader John Boehner said in an interview with the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review out today that he would back raising the Social Security retirement age to 70 for those who will not retire for another 20 years.

Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee National Press Secretary Ryan Rudominer told Hotsheet in response to the comment that the Republican "blueprint" is to privatize Social Security and Medicare, citing the budget of Representative Paul Ryan (R - Wis.).
This is how they want to fix the deficit. Amazing.

It's a necessity.

When SS was formed, the average lifespan was 59 years old. Could you retire at 59 in the 40's? No. You died and never collected. That's the only reason that SS stayed solvent for so long.

We live in a new reality. What's wrong with that?

If we get the life expectancy down to 70 through medicare cuts and raise the retirement age to 70 then we'll have plenty of money to pay off the deficit and some extra to pay for wars. Sounds like a republican trifecta. People will be dying with their first SS check in their hands.

Liberals should be all for it.
It gives them a few extra years to pay taxes to their deity.

It's patriotic to pay taxes- Joe Biden

What's so amazing about it. When Social Security started the retirement age was 65 the average life span wasn't much greater than that. People are living much longer and the demographics of the country are such that there are far fewer workers supporting each retiree. Social Security as it exists today is unsupportable. Please tell me how you would suggest we make Social Security solvent?

It's been raised before..from 65 to now 67. Reduced benefits have remained at 62.
What's your beef about raising it to 70 ?

It's not like we're flowing in surplus money you know.....
The austerity measures have to kick in sometime. You'd be a fool to think we're going to magically recover and all this debt will magically disappear.

You are talking like a Democrat here. You see, they were the party that controlled Congress in the early 50s when they started spending the "surplus" SS money every year as if it was just plain income tax money. Somehow both parties stuck with that and therefore we have a depleted SS fund. If we took the hands of Congress out of SS money tomorrow we would see a surplus again next year and it would continue for a long time.

No they can never pay the money back to the retired people of this nation since they have raised the debt of the nation over $2 trillion the last year. However, the Congress does owe the retired people from now to forever over $3 trillion, the amount they have spent that was supposed to go into a trust fund. Both parties are to blame but a Democrat controlled Congress allowed President Eisenhower to start the spending that never stopped. Now we are in the hole but by taking their hands out of the pot we could keep this thing going.

To pay the deficit with SS money or to use the money for war or any of the things you say would be just as illegal as what has been happening for over 50 years. Wise up and look at what they have done to we the people.

Don't tell any of these lefties but today I heard a doctor say on TV that if you live to 65 you have a great chance to get to 95. Just think how high the Dems will be able to take the retirement age with that kind of life expectancy.

Ah, I see. So it's true, then...Liberals are really the only patriotic people in the U.S.! Thanks for pointing that out.

Maybe we should raise the welfare age to 70. By then at least some of the welfare lifer losers would have been forced to actually work for a living instead of scumming off of those who have worked.

Liberals have no plan other then to keep people down and out and not give them any opportunity to actually earn their own living.

Remember, the liberal idea is for everyone to rely on the government for everything.

So does any liberal have a better plan?
