Why do you have a problem with gay couples in domestic partnerships being treated the SAME as hetero married couples in regards to healthcare?

That's what this is all about.

Because she clearly feels that a gay couple who commit to each other (but can't legally get married) share the same level of commitment as a hetero couple who are just living together. This is why the anti-marriage crowd is so vocal. "Just call 'em Civil Unions", they say, "it's the same thing, but why do you have to call it marriage?". Clearly, this illustrates the argument for full marriage equality. Equating a boyfriend and girlfriend living together with a same sex couple making a life commitment is an issue.

Does the term, "Domestic Partnership" refer to a legal relationship in the state of California? That would be a big difference than just two people "living" together.

I'm not sure what kind of mental gymnastics it takes in order to become "sickened" over this issue, but I would suggest talking to a therapist about it if you really do feel that way.

It's really exemplifies more of the selfishness of the right wing. They are hell bent to make sure they get every right that is constitutionally and legally guaranteed. When it comes to others-- They are not deserving of those rights. Is it a mental exercise that right wingers go through so they feel special?

Even when presented with the correct information again and again--

There's no legal prohibition for this, as homosexuals are not a protected group (Thanks right wingers-- The irony is delicious).

Google doesn't ask sexual orientation on the application. However, when one applies for benefits for a same sex partner the situation reveals itself...

The right wingers still selfishly insist that gay couples are getting 'special' rights. Wow.

It is fascinating, isn't it? Why would they be against a private company deciding how much to pay its employees? Aren't they in favor of keeping the government out of private business?

It doesn't really matter- Google's US headquarters may be in California but there are at least 30 other offices in the US. My boyfriend, for instance, works in Atlanta where I am not aware of a legal term for domestic partnership. I qualify for domestic partner benefits at Google simply be virtue of living with my boyfriend- no other legal steps.

So you're going to avoid using the product of a company that treats people fairly because you don't think certain people should be treated fairly? OK, GottaBMe, I just don't get it.

I have no problem with a company giving benefits to a domestic partner, a girlfriend/boyfriend, or even a weekend hookup. That's their business. I'm just concerned, and confused, about the idea of giving extra pay to "make up" for a tax or tax break. I mean, if I'm thinking about that correctly, once you start down that road there is no end to how many things people can find that are "unfair". It may not have anything to do with marriage or sexuality or whatever but like the other poster already said, what about single people? The always seem to get the shaft tax wise. Life IS unfair..and it always will be. I'd rather address things on a bigger scale if it's really an issue.

But then, Google can do whatever it wants and deal with whatever the consequences are. If they want to be social engineers so be it. It just tells me that they haven't been paying attention to how badly that stuff often turns out down the road in the real world. And I guess this will be the first thing to go when gay marriage is recognized.
