I understand the need to cut spending, but I think this is unfair to state employees. It's not their fault that the state government is in fiscal disarray. Wouldn't it make more sense to slash the paychecks of the State Senate and Assembly?
You are right.
I voted yes but you are right.

That's the easy answer--and if you ran for office on that platform, you'd rack up quite a few votes. But it's not the issue.

The issue is Schwarzenegger announcing a cut in state workers salaries. And he's doing it for the exact same reason as your offhanded answer: because he knows that a lot of people in California won't make much noise in protest. He is, in fact, playing to the cameras (hardly surprising from an actor!)

The real problem is an irresponsible--one hesitates to use the word 'incompetent,' although it gets more and more difficult to avoid it--state legislature that got things to this point in the first place. And believe me, I live in New York State, so I know what I'm talking about. Our wonderful representatives up in Albany behave like a pie fighting scene in a Three Stooges movie.

Then comes election day, and you see that 40% of the people in the state haven't bothered to vote. So none of this should come as a shock to anyone.

If there was real justice, the people of California (and New York, and probably several other states, as well) would solve the problem themselves, by voting clowns out of office.

I think that he should have first=

1. Cut pensions
2. Cut all benefits given to illegals
3. Cut state medicaid roles
4. slashed any social programs
5. cut the number of school administrators
6. any state funded organization with the exception of police, schools and fire departments (police and fire are usually locally funded)

It seems as though socialism does not work. Europe has discovered this. California has discovered this. Now we have an idiot president who does not understand this and is leading us down the same path to ruin.

How about we cut military funding, reduce foreign aid, cut salaries in congress, get a taxable temporary immigration policy into effect, cut spending for jailing illegal immigrants and use that money to strengthen the border, shrink the DEA,legalize marijuana and release marijuana offenders from prison, privatize unused federal property, cut corporate welfare,NASA,and many other programs that can go on a temporary pause.
The military isn't funded from the State of California and legalizing all the illegal border crossers isn't going to solve a single problem because according to the open borders crowd, all the illegals are already paying more taxes than anyone else. Selling the national parks isn't going to give California money. Nor is NASA paid by California.

On Monday morning I have to go to the Michigan Secretary of State and put up with their head game horse shirt. I'll stand in line to get a number, then sit on a hard plastic chair unlike the upholsters ones the state workers get. Then when my number is finally called, I'll pray I have all the Tees crossed and Iyes dotted so I don't have to repeat the process. Then, if I have everything in order and to their liking, I can spend an unbelievable amount of money to register a vehicle. Of course the only reason it costs so much to do this is because we over pay the rudest pigs on the planet to eff with us about our paper work.

$7/hr is what a decent, polite and energetic fast food worker makes. They are grossly underpaid because they put up with my crap and still give me my food quickly and without a hassle. How about state workers start living in the same reality as the rest of us?
Will they be open Monday???? Hubby and I were just talking about that.

Not enough information to go on. Kalifornia is past broke and it is a situation largely of their own making. An open boarder/amnesty policy and an overbearing state regulatory form of government has hastened its downfall, IMO.

Cuts will have to be dramatic and across the board. No one on the Kalifornia payroll will be immune.

No need to quit. Unlike 90% of the private sector we have the unions to make sure we get the pay and benefits to make the job bearable, which is coming out of your pockets.

Union thuggary and another reason why unions for public workers should be abolished.
