Similarly, did you know that as of the time of the (first) OPEC oil crisis in the 70s 30% of American adults did not know we imported any oil?

They thought it all came from Texas.

That would be things that weren't taught in school. That would be the media not talking about facts instead of spins.

We are not born knowing these things--we have to be taught.

Default 26% of American adults do not know who we fought for independence

Now if we can only get that 26% to stop posting here...

This isnt a matter of doing badly in school necessarily, because American kids arent taught about labor struggles, but some huge percent doesnt know the history of Labor Day. And fewer have ever seen a Labor Day parade, or know why a community might have one.

And even fewer know why the US has it in September and not on May Day

Most people don't want to be bothered with a reality they can't do anything about. For most ignorance is bliss. I don't think that it's a bad thing. I just wish they wouldn't vote.

I think kids are just getting dumber everywhere.

A fifth of British teenagers believe Sir Winston Churchill was a fictional character, while many think Sherlock Holmes, King Arthur and Eleanor Rigby were real, a survey shows.
