The way I see it, Obama was damned if he did and damned if he didn't. It will not be possible to correctly assess the success/failure of this administration's actions re the economic crisis for years.

How would you have 'fixed' the mess that George left without spending great amounts of money?

None of the above.

The free market that the Republicans love so much was SO damaged that it'll take years and years for that free market to recover all of them. All ARRA could do was rescue us from going even lower.

There's no way they will ever have the votes to repeal HC.

They only way to bring manufacturing back is to be more protectionist, and I can't see either party embracing that because we don't have a socialist party (like I've said so many times, would that the Democrats actually were socialists. I'd embrace it and readily admit it.)

The will run things much like they ran them from 03-07. Then we liberals can have tea parties and pretend WE want to cut spending.

Tort reform to decrease the built in cost of defensive medicine.

Counter the foreign governements use of the US to subsidize via controlled costs, aka supporting their countries companies patent laws.

Remove affirmative action from medical schools. The best for the job should be a doctor. On that note, they should instead fund programs for medical advancement of people who are already in the medical field to step up to MD/DO schools.

Overall to get my support the GOP would have to slash funding at all levels, start to draw down troops in Iraq/Afgan, keep tax cuts, reduce corporate taxes, reciprical tariffs on coutries who have closed or semi-closed markets (VAT for England who costs something like 80-90K for a corvette, or severe limitations for China). A flat tax would have me singing in the streets, coupled with complete removal of an subsidies/deductions.
So you support "death panels"? And care paid by the estate of the patient? The only after death care I ever heard of was a funeral!

Med school is not an "affirmative action" situation. There are far more qualified applicants than spaces for them.

If this country was actually dumb enough to put that bunch back in there, we deserve whatever follows which will probably be WW 3 and Great Depression The Sequel. And you won't be able to say crap about it because the Patriot Act will be used to round up all dissidents and put them in re-education camps that are being built right now.

Pretty much what it looks like today. Obama will veto all the pro growth initiatives the Republican congress comes up with. Things will change in 2012 however, with a Republican President and Congress.

What will the Republicans do when they take over? Absolutely nothing.
What will the Democrats do? Absolutely nothing.
What will the Tea Party do if they ever take over? Absolutely nothing.

If you think otherwise, you are setting yourself up for being massively let down.

The same was true of Bush.

We do know that the two tax cuts helped end a recession and gave us a good economy for most of Bush's 8 years in office.

What mess? Do you mean the 52 consecutive months of job growth and an unemployment rate as low as 4.5%?

Or do you mean the mortgage issue in which both Bush and Cheney asked Congress several times to reform and modify?
