I and many other Americans wish to say welcome to these new citizens.
This is an Honorable and legit way to bestow citizenship to Foreign Nationals that wish to become citizens, these people earned it unlike the millions Obama is trying to reward that haven't.
These brave men and women signed up to fight for the USA not to come over and leach of the system and commmit crime. This is a path to citizenship that is respectfully earned through actions not criminality.
The actions, sacrifice and ambitions of these new Americans are a contribution that deserves our respect and appreciation.
.
we may have sold them their citizenship, but they damn well earned it. military service is not easy, nor is it meant to be. but military service is one of the highest forms of service one can do for their country. those that give their lives fighting for their country are among the honored dead.
Oh for ford’s sake.
Not every military member sees combat and many who to the middle east are logisticians, cooks, admin people, etc.
Only certain MOSs see action.
Are you saying that every single military member gets shot at?
Are you saying that they are forced into this life?
I call brouhaha on that, if it is your assertion.
Don’t you think that’s the only reason many foreign nationals sign up?

Agreed. I myself don't believe in using Military service as a path to citizenship. The reasons being what you stated.
For the haters out there Chiel is a Vet like myself and has earned the right to question or even denounce how we use our Military. I often disagree with her view points but never disagree with what she earned.
Happy 4th Chiel.
I didn't earn anything special; I'm just another vet.
I signed up for selfish reasons, just like most of the other vets out there. (If they admit it or not).

LOL I admit to nothing. LOL
Actually I signed up because thats what every male in my fathers family before me did. I knew when I was 8 years old I was going to sign up. Never regretted it. I do regret the MOS I chose to begin with but it all worked out in the end.
Awarding citizenship based on military service is not a sound idea. We can look at other nations that have implemented this, from the Romans to the Nazis, and the end result has never been noble nor a continuation of democratic principles. Instead, the opposite has repeatedly occurred.
If our military requires foreign nationals in order to meet its recruiting goals and strategic missions, then we need to look at what we are requiring our military to do--in this case, our perpetual state of war.

To the illegals, this is how you EARN your place in this country. These new citizens will probably appreciate everything they have here more because they did the hard work to get it.

I see the point about 'mercenary citizenship' but still find it less distasteful than much of the alternative routes. Whether they see combat or not is actually a non issue, as someone has to do the non combat roles. Gotta have people in the rear with the gear, cooks, logistics techs, armorers, twigets, etc.Doing this with foriegn nationals on a broad scale may be unwise, but, I don't see 300 people as being overboard. That is hardly a high percentage. Now , if we were doing this on a division strength scale, I would be a bit more jaded about the idea. There were a lot of foriegn nationals, from all over, who fought for the US during WW2 and became citizens thus. A lot more than 300 SD's
Some try to cheapen the oath of citizenship for this 300 individuals by spouting off, "We sell citizenship...". Others profer that SERVICE IN THE MILITARY by foreigners as a method to gain citizenship is bad, maybe without fully understanding that this has been the case since this nation fought the American Revolution.
These 300 represent a few immigrants who have taken advantage of present legislation that allows them to gain respectable citizenship without having to crash American borders illegally and wait on amnesty. For this, their services are trashed by some, apparently for nothing more than vindictiveness.
At least the American taxpayer gets something for its money with this 300. Along our southern border there are 300 or more sneaking across the border daily, fouling our land, affecting our sovereignty, and costing taxpayers millions.
Seems to me this is a no-brainer. Give me the immigrants who work within the system to gain citizenship and become productive members of society rather than the ones who enter illegally and become nothing more than a liability.
Selling citizenship? Tell that to the 80+ foreign-born American soldiers who have given their lives in the line of duty since 2001.
I'm quite certain they would like a refund.
