These are real people I know.

Married couple - retired
  • He is ex military (not war vet) and collects pension and receives gov't health care
  • He is also retired from a State job with pension
  • She is retired from a government contractor, collecting pension
  • She collected Unemployment Checks after layoff with no plan to return to work
  • Both are eligible for Social Security and plan on collecting
  • Received payout from government flood insurance for hurricane damage and will be building a brand new home
  • Received help from National Guard and local agencies after hurricane
  • Received help from FEMA, including FEMA trailer and months of temporary housing
  • Parents received Social Security and Medicare
  • Always vote the Party line, and strongly and vocally oppose the other Party and its leadership in personal terms

Married couple, retired, but recent widow:
  • Never worked for any government or government contractor
  • Never collected unemployment benefits
  • Never received food stamps or any welfare payments, but did accept the "free cheese"
  • Were both former Union members
  • He was a war veteran whose only collected benefit was a veterans gravestone
  • His pension was lost when his industry moved overseas in the mid 1980s
  • He worked until had heart attack, but too young to collect SS for several years
  • Collected Social Security as primary income after age 65
  • Did not use VA health care or Medicare, but used savings and SS to purchase own health plan
  • Saved their money, and paid off first and only home
  • Their parents did not receive Social Security, Medicare, or any government assistance
  • Never voted by Party line, but looked at individual candidates
  • Always fly the American flag, and have a flag sticker on their car and front door
  • Believe that their politics, religion, and finances are no one else's business
  • Had children who served in the military

Curious what others thoughts are on this. I think about these couples whenever there are discussions about the Tea Party, what kind of people join, and what their motivations are.

Two people, don't represent the tea party's primary base.

#1 hands down are the "tea party" members. I won't go into details but the truths are there.

I guess the real question would be...who would be against less (or controllled ) spending...and lower taxes....who would be for a smaller government, which is what the constitution is based on....

I think EVERYONE who is tired of the government ABUSING its limited powers, and the FRAUD within this government, would WANT to be a teapartier

if you are asking which couple is a teaparty person....probaly bith...although I fit into#2

Cancelling all government isn't the same as controlling the abuse of funds.
Cutting off your nose to spite you face comes to mind.
Or throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
There are plenty of saying that encompass the bad idea of destroying the good just to get rid of the bad.

The hard part is always discerning the good from the bad.

I have family that are retired (public) education professionals that fit the ideology of Tea Partiers to a tee.

I'll scream it until 20?? when it happens. It doesn't matter who they are, they are gone back to the rocking chair as soon as Obama is gone. Same borrow and spend. Same big war budget. Same everything just like 2008 and you want hear a word once he is not the one doing it. The seeds of hate they plant in blacks and whites and Latinos unfortunately will remain though.

Both are made-up couples just for you to try and start some sort of flame war. Possibly because you have nothing better to do. Possibly because you are so rabidly left that you cannot see anything clearly.

Regardless, this is a stupid thread and a lie.

Where is the flame war? This isn't fox news.
OP stated these are both situations he knows personally. This is a rare post that is actually intelligent. Don't get mad because you can't figure it out.

I agree. If this OP really did his research into Tea Party members he would not have had to post this thread. The OP's hypothesis is way off base.
