It's kind of odd to be considering whether we'd pay more taxes or not, and for what services, when the government refuses to release a budget until after the elections. Hmmm. I wonder why they're postponing it. Anyone want to make a guess?

Once we see that budget, we would be in a better position to answer this question.

I would not pay higher taxes, and resent paying as much as I do, to continue to support our Imperial pretenses or subsidize very profitable corporate farms and the gasohol program. Those people are welfare cheats of the most expensive kind.
Greg, I suspect that you and I are on opposite ends of the political spectrum. But we may be able to agree that government should not be funding anything that is beyond the purview of the federal government. Farm subsidies and green energy programs (ethanol) are two you mention. There are many more: Planned Parenthood, ACORN, the NEA, NPR, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the UN, the Education Department. The list goes on and on. If we cut out all these unconstitutional expenditures we wouldn't need to raise taxes to fund those things that the federal government is authorized to do.

How about for tax money going to other state, county, local and federal programs/services? Examples: Parks, fire/EMS, public TV/radio, school lunches/breakfasts, pre-K, sidewalks, street lights, border patrol, summer camps, energy, etc.

National defense and a focus on the protections listed by the Constitution. Everything else, get rid of. Privatize everything. Though if we did that, my taxes would go down and that doesn't fit into the money scheme.

I'd pay for a fact checker agency and an enforcement arm that made it illegal for members of the US congress and senate to lie when speaking on the floor of the house.

Something that should be repeated, and repeated, and repeated. Nobody stops anyone from giving more money to schools, sending cash to Washington for reducing the debt, supporting charities for unwed mothers, sending money to Israel or any other foreign nation, etc.

But because of the chronic overspending of our government (both Dem & Repub) on all levels, we will all be paying so much in new taxes that our economy will never recover. And it will all be going just to interest and debt payments.

The counter to this idea of raising taxes, is to cut government spending on those items not specifically mandated in the Constitution, which means Barney Frank keeps his hands off our national defense.
