Except that Dems don't make attempts to keep minorities dependent on the government. This is a complete canard. It's one of the things that conservatives tell each other to justify their hatred of liberals. Welfare roles are way down, as are benefits...

The Democratic and progressive principal is about empowerment of minorities, and providing a safety net for those who can't take care of themselves. (Frequently forgotten is the fact that, by far, most beneficiaries of welfare are children).

I'm glad Republicans see people as having unlimited potential. I will join them in supporting minority scholarship programs, funding for programs that improve public schools that serve overwhelming minority populations, prisoner rehabilitation programs and free college programs for children who grow up in foster care.

Not bothering to read through 7 pages of posts, but I'd take Jindal over Blagojevich or his successor Quinn any day of the week.

LOL, the welfare roles are down because Republicans brow beat Clinton into workfare, and welfare reform.

If you really believed in empowering minorities you would support school choice. Dems are against it because minorities might escape their grasp. One of Obama's first acts was to take away private school options from minority students in DC. Shameful.

Will Barack Obama Let Democrats Dismantle the Opportunity Scholarship Program? - WSJ.com

By the way this is what Obama took away from these kids.

http://www.businesswire.com/portal/s...67&newsLang=en

"A program that provides school vouchers to low-income D.C. children to attend private schools "significantly improved students' chances of graduating high school" and boosted student graduation rates by 21 percentage points, new data reveals."

Can't have that, if they aren't wards of the state they may rise up against the state.

Meh, I stand by my statement. Jindal > Blago, Jindal > Quinn.

Mandatory ultrasounds are fine by me.

I don't go to church and I don't care what people bring into them.

Crimes against nature? Without reading more into it (too tired), I'd say crimes are bad, yes.

I think that's hogwash. It isn't the 'Dems' who keep anyone down. It's the people themselves and an attitude that everything is suppose to be perfect in America that has become pervasive in our society. I see Democrates as the the party that is more willing to build programs that offer people a hand up; that offer people assistance with programs that will improve their lives. Without the Democrats there would be no Headstart. Many young people who would never have been able to entertain the thought of a college degree can envision that with the help of government grants. There are many examples of government assistance which has changed people's lives for the better.

Are there people who abuse the system? Yes. Are there people who have been raised with an attitude that they are't good enough to rise above government assistance? Yes.

It really boils down to an alpha and a beta. Is it better to have the programs and suffer through those who abuse the system or better to have no government assistance and a country with far fewer success stories from people who would otherwise be living in poverty.
