In the piece below which talks about the fact that the IRS would need billions more (not accounted for in the bill) to administer healthcare the following statement was made:

"I have no doubt the IRS is capable of administering social programs, including healthcare," Nina Olson, head of the NTA, said in a statement. “But Congress must provide sufficient funding.”

Tax report rehashes debate over cost effectiveness of healthcare reform law - The Hill's Healthwatch

Are we as a nation now looking to ther Internal Revenue Service to administer social programs? Healthcare? Social Security? Medicare?

What are your thoughts on this growing trend?

I would not be opposed to tax adjustments on gas and food. We use about 180 Billion gallons of gas per year, add a $1 tax to go to alternative energy development. Set varying tax rates on food based on nutritional value. The higher the food value, the lower the tax, down to zero. The tax collected on that to go to paying for Health Care. That would not prohibit the freedom of choice, it would, however, make the prices people pay for food, more reflective of the actual cost of their choices.

I especialy am upset about tan tax, 'Tan tax' discussions include allegations of reverse racism. No, all kidding aside it's about government control and nothing as altruistic as taking care of anyones health!

Nobody likes to pay them, but taxes are a necessity. How they are spent, is of concern to all of us. Perhaps a "directed tax system" would be better. Income tax, could be so. Different percentages of your tax go to the various needs of the Nation. X percent for Defense, Y percent for Education, Z percent for Infrastructure, etc. It could make it more difficult for Congress to direct tax money to their personal pet projects and useless programs.

Well we have NASA doing State Dept work so it doesn't surprise me that the IRS will be doing Health Dept work.

See, new job responsibilities for these agencies will require new people..lots of them.
See, Obama IS creating more jobs.

Who would choose the percentages?

Default Consumption Tax !

The most efficient, least corrupt replacement for an income tax would be a national consumption tax. The more you consume, the more you pay.

It makes more sense to have an existing agency administrate health care etc. than to start a whole new bureaucracy to it. The IRS has the best tracking system and computers in the country. Put them to work 24/7.

Those who writes tax law, Congress. Obviously there would be argument on it, but if there were a will, it could be done. Do I think it could be accomplished? Not for quite a long time. Much like Immigration, there has to be a willingness in Congress to act with less regard to the politics, but that reality, is on us to correct.
