"Delivered to over 200,000 civil rights supporters,[1] the speech is often considered to be one of the greatest and most notable speeches in human history and was ranked the top American speech of the 20th century by a 1999 poll of scholars of public address.[2]"

It was one of your country's pivotal moments.

Because Glenn Beck has never indicated that his goal is to unite or even to encourage understanding among Americans of different races or political persuasions, many find it ironic at best, hateful and bullying at worst that he would choose the anniversary of this brilliant moment in human rights history for a vaguely-themed rally ("Help us restore the values that founded this great nation") that has nothing to do with unity or peace but which will feature such other famous uniters as Ted Nugent.

This is Beck, equating himself and his listeners to the brave people who fought and who died for civil rights:

Beck: "Martin Luther King's dream is being massively perverted. ... It's time to set it right" | Media Matters for America

Many people are upset by Beck's choice of date for his rally.

I think that unless Beck is trying to be provocative, he would have picked a different date. If he werent full of hubris and insensitivity, he would have chosen any other date but this one. There are 364 other days in the year.

Do you think Beck should have chosen a different date?

Media Matters? Please. More George Soros sponsored propoganda.

No, no one is beholding to not peacefully assemble on August 28th, year in deference to the MKL march and speech. It is not as though he has pre-emted a huge rally on the 50th anniversery or anything.

Maybe the left could protest something else about Glenn Beck? Maybe they should march against him eating M&M's?

Are you saying that Martin Luther King is not part of restoring our honor?
I watched Glen Beck more than several times and when ever he talked about MLK it was with great respect.

Restoring the honor and respecting our army is exactly what MLK wanted. I have a dream was not about two countries, but one united under the same values.

I think it is a great honor and I bet Beck chose the date carefully, and will most probably honor him and the civil right movement (as it was before Sharpton, Jackson etc.) on that day too.

It took me less than a minute to search and discover that Beck has honored MLK. I'm just curious like that.

BTW, August 28 is not MLK Day.

So this isn't MLK Day and the rally is to pay tribute to America’s service personnel and other upstanding citizens who embody our nation’s founding principles of integrity, truth and honor.

I can see how this would cause such anguish to the left....

Odd that some of the anguished did not even know the date for MLK Day....

Yep, any resemblance of normalcy will be struck down by the left. How DARE someone actually honor the good people.
