“When Republicans have had the reins, this is what they’ve done: two wars not paid for, prescription drug benefit not paid for, two tax cuts that mostly benefited the rich not paid for. They put all that stuff on the deficit, $1.3 trillion sitting there as–in a deficit when Obama took over, after the previous Democratic president had handed him a surplus. If you talk about–if Republicans want to run as this fiscally responsible party, it’s neat, but it’s novel. It’s not how they’ve actually governed.”

Rachel Maddow Hammers the Myth of the Fiscally Responsible GOP

RACHEL MADDOW: If you really want a stimulus do what we-- what's proven to work in stimulus, which is states like extending unemployment-- benefits, which is something that Republicans are blocking

What is disturbing is that people vote these non-representatives into office.

If you would like to contend that the Democratic party is the fiscally responsible party, everyone will be more than glad to laugh you off the forum.

More disturbing is those like Maddow that thinks a good way to stimulate the economy for job growth is UE beni's and people who slurp that nonsense up.

She is right about the GOP. They have Zero history of fiscal responsibility in Congress or the White House.

She is wrong about UE Benefits. UE benefits should be for people to pay their bills. Not to stimuluate the economy. I as a taxpayer will not pay an unemployed person to take their family out for steak dinners.

i think it'd be a toss up, who is more fiscally responsible. Clinton was far more fiscally responsible than W. Bush, and probably moreso than Reagan, who saw some serious deficit expansion. The jury is still out on Obama, since he's having to undertake unorthodox policies to clean up Bush's mess.

when you look at the bulk of the legislature, though, i think the Republicans are more fiscally conservative. there are some pretty irresponsible democrats in the legislature.

it is easy to raise hell about "fiscally responsibility" when you have depression-level deflationary pressure, but that is exactly the WRONG time to suddenly get fiscally responsible. the time to have been fiscally responsible was during the years of growth and rapidly expanding private credit, 2002-2007, the Bush baby-boomer big bash giveaway years, but we screwed that up big time. right now the name of the game is efficient stimulus (which we seem to be failing at) and orderly deleveraging (which we seem to have abandoned).

The Republican party represents the hyper wealthy and their corporate lakeys far more efficiently than the Democrats. Always support the Party of the Plutocrats if you believe you are goning to continue to win life's lottery.
