The last plant Obama visited (one in Ohio) was because GOVERNMENT gave them a GRANT to retrofit.. Not PRIVATE investments..
Ahh, low and behold, I looked up the one in Michigan.. $151.4M GRANT as well from the government..
There goes your argument that people are INVESTING because its government grants for the demand, and now government grants for the supply.. Where is my slappyhead icon when I need it...
Ah, the facility is an over $300 million investment, that the grant from the Stimulus provided about half. Yes, Obama is willing to spend Stimulus money to stimulate jobs and spur investments in future industries. Batteries is one.
they are furiously googling to get information to combat reality! LOL!
You know better.. They dont/cant use Google because Google gives BOTH sides of reality. They prefer media matters etc, and we all know Media Matters cant dispute facts without lying..

The other 1/2 is provided by state tax credits financed over 15 years..
Math lesson, if federal govt is providing 1/2 a grant, and the state is providing the other 1/2 with tax credits financed over 15 years, whats the total investment being made by the plant? (Hint, answer = 0)
Thats GOVERNMENT supplying the demand for both the consumers, and the suppliers, and normally, you would be criticizing some private entity getting $300M if your tax money.. For some reason though you are celebrating this.

I keep hearing that we got out of the Depression because we spent money gearing up for World War II.
Would a massive spending spree help spark our economy?
Or should we cut back on spending?
People seem to think that, but things really didn't get good until after the war, when we retooled our huge war machine to make consumer goods and started selling them to the world with aboslutely no competition.
So really, the war was a boon to us because we didn't get our infrastructure destroyed while the rest of the industrialized world did. We were in a once in a lifetime position to set up shop quickly and dominate world trade. Consequently, we became insanely prosperous as a country.
Just spending like crazy on the war put people to work, but I doubt many felt prosperous with wartime rationing in full swing and hundreds of thousands of folks being sent off and getting killed in the war. As for the people in the war zones... I imagine they felt like Armageddon was at hand.
Bottom line, it's foolish to try the same tactic again, because the world is not functioning under the same dynamic. Wasteful spending into oblivion will most likely be the result this time.

Along with the people of Michigan, yes I am celebrating this. The facility will cost $300m, half of that from CPI, who will get a return on their investment, some of it, by way of State of Mich tax breaks for 15yrs. States trying to attract new businesses often, and for good reason, do that.
