You have no right, title, claim or guarantee to a job.
Employment is solely your responsibility. I have neither an obligation to give you a job, nor find a job for you, nor pay you if you don't have one.
An employer pays SUTA/FUTA, taxes for unemployment benefits. Unlike Social Security or payroll taxes which are made in your specific name to an account in your name, unemployment taxes are paid into a general fund.
You are entitle to receive some compensation from the SUTA/FUTA fund if you are terminated through no fault of your own.
However, that is not a life-long benefit or entitlement.
When Cortez landed in the New World, it is said that he burned his ships. His crew were probably angry, but there was no going back and that motivated them to work extremely hard to survive.
That's what cutting off benefits does. It motivates people to either work hard, or readjust their life-style to get used to living with one income.
As I have said repeated for the last 3 years, things are changing. In the 1970s, only 13% of households in the US had two-wage earners. When the recession started, that number was 67%.
When all is said and done, and you ain't done yet, not by a long shot, you'll be lucky if 18%-23% of households have two wage-earners.
So what, we should pay those people unemployment for the rest of their natural lives?
Those jobs are gone, they aren't coming back, and there are more jobs to be lost. Accept and learn to deal with it, and your life will be much easier.
Men are just going to have to get used to the idea of being "house-husbands," because in many households, it may be that the wife is the only one who can find a job, or the one who can earn the most. Get over it.
